We have been working hard learning the routines of our classroom. We started the year with stories by Kevin Henkes. We loved hearing about Lily and her friends. We have started using our series Reading Steet for reading. We are learning how to listen and identify sounds of letters so that we can decode words. We have started reading groups so be on the look out for books in the book bags. Please sign the calendar nightly (Monday through Thursday) to show that you and your child have read for 20 minutes. In science, we are learning about living things and what they need. We will visit the animal lab to notice things that living things need to stay alive. We all are going to the CT Science Center on Friday. We will be seeing exhibits about space, forces and motion and the child space. I hope you can join us! In math, we are learning about shapes around us. Did you notice that some clocks are circle shaped?
We have also started our Writer's Workshop. Each day at 2:30 we write stories about our adventures. Students share their stories with their friends in class. We will learn how to edit and add to our stories to make them more enjoyable to the reader! These are our class rules: I control myself, I help my friends control themselves and We are ALL friends. We will be acting out how to speak to our friends to get them to listen to us. We will practicing using a kind voice, looking our friends in the eye and telling our friends why we are upset.Remember---The more you read, the better you read!
