Week of 11/17-11/21
Dear Parents and Students,
Thanks for stopping by to check out what we're doing this week in 5th grade! Reminders: We will have a half day on Wednesday, 11/26 and no school on 11/27-28 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Homework: Your fifth grader will have math, reading, and spelling homework each week night. Please check your child's planner each night to see what homework needs to be done. The planner is also used as a communication between parents and teachers. If an assignment is not turned in on time, a "Missing Homework" stamp will be stamped in the planner and it needs to be completed and turned in.
Math: Students will be able to calculate the area of a triangle using the formula A=1/2bh. The students will also use grid paper to figure out the area of other irregular polygons.
Spelling: Students will focus on the 10 vocabulary words from List 6. They will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday.
Social Studies: We will be discovering how different American symbols originated and how they became important to American culture. We will also compare and contrast patriot and loyalist perspectives.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jenkins
