Today was an interesting day, to say the least.  During my first block, I received a call from my daughters' school nurse, who informed me my youngest daughter had significant trouble breathing.  This meant I had to burden my colleagues with my 6th grade class, who behaved well.  During first block, I made a point to teach slowly and thoroughly so that all students would understand the combinations.  However, I think their nerves got the best of them, and they did not ask as many questions as needed.  I was pleased that they stayed engaged and attentive and involved in class discussions.  They loved the across the floor combination, even though some found it extremely challenging.  I already have some students for after school tutoring, which shows me that they want to learn and be successful.  I couldn't ask for more.  Finally, came my Dance Majors II class, which had their movement assessment for placement purposes.  I tried my hardest not to give so many corrections, since it was an assessment.  However, I did give some reminders and tips and asked important questions regarding alignment.  All in all, I had a great day.  If I were to change anything it would be to remember to give my new students their syllabus, so that they know what they need for class.

Well, so far so good. I have been keeping up with attendance and parent-teacher correspondence.  I know it is only the first week, but I still have to celebrate my accomplishments.  As far as class went, I am very happy that the students found power yoga challenging and fun.  I didn't hear the normal grunts and groans, which means our students are maturing and seeing the value of all things.  My fourth block class is extremely small, so to keep up the energy, we did power yoga outside.  It was invigorating, and the students seemed to thoroughly enjoy it.laughing

I reflected and took my own advice.  I believe that the new students are a lot more comfortable with the poicies, procedures, consequences, and what to expect from the class.  The students asked poignant questions and could answer my "check for understanding questions" with confidence.  On to yoga tomorrow!!!

August 25th went extremely smoothly, perhaps due to my small class sizes and repeat students.  I did feel that I rushed through my procedures, expectations, and my syllabi, forgetting that I have new students.  I plan on reviewing things a lot more slowly, check for understanding more frequently, and going further in depth.
