Dear parents,
May is here and so is Spring. The children are all very excited to see the changing season and the warmer weather. This month we will work on the life cycle of plants and animals. We will also incorporate the ball study with our learning. We are planting, observing plants growing and identifying parts of a flower. Next week will will countinue the life cycle study will live caterpillars. Students will be given the opportunity to see the process of a egg to caterpillar to crysalis to butterfly. Once the butterflies are at their final stage we will release them in the school play yard.
During this month we will also work on letter sounds, counting and comparing, positional words and sequence stages.

Hello pre k families,
April is approaching so here are important dates to keep in mind.
Wednesday, April 12th is an optional noon dismissal. If you would like to pick up your child at noon please let the pre k 4 teachers know.
Thursday, April 13th through Friday, April 21st the school is closed for Easter recess. School will resume on Monday, April 24th.

The class will continue to study recycling into April. We will end the study with a Earth day celebration before the Easter recess.
Countinue to talk about recycling and sorting recyclable items in your home.
We will begin the ball study when we return to school. The ball study will also include Spring time activities.

Dear families,
As we come to a close to the clothing study we will transition in to the recycling study by reading the story, "The Paperbag Princesses". Therefore we need your help gathering items to investigate. We need different objects and pictures related to trash. Here is a list of items. Also make sure these items are clean and safe.
Boxes
Newspaper
Egg cartons
Plastic bottles
Soda bottles
Small glass jars( baby food jars)
Aluminum cans
Tin cans
Foil
plastic bubble sheets
Bottle caps
Magazine
As we study trash and garbage you can also raise your child's awareness of the kinds of materials that can be recycled and how to keep our environment clean.

Dear parents,

We have been exploring clothing for the past two weeks. We discovered features of clothing like buttons, zippers, toggles and Velcro. We counted the features and compared their shapes. We also read the story "Goldielocks and the three bears". The children learned how to compare sizes large medium and small. We also used units to count the length of the clothing. The children discusses who they think can fit in either of the three sizes.
This past week, we discussed how to care for clothing. The children washed clothing, hanged them on a clothesline and folded the clothes. We also discussed the different ways we can care for clothes.
Next week we will discuss sorting colors and why it is important to was similar colors together.

On YouTube we watch "have fun teaching" videos. We are to the letter M. We also visit https://www.ws1to6-songs.com/. We are practicing reading the rhym "Baa, baa, black sheep". Clip on part one, the rhym and then video. The rhym as well as the words will play. Your child can sing along and read the words.

Dear parents,
We will begin the clothing study January 17th. We will begin to talk about clothes, dressing and comparing clothes. We need your help gathering clothes for our investigation. Please donate clothes to the class, we will compare sizes, tripe, colors, and fabrics. As we study we will learn concepts and skills in literacy,math, science,social studies, the arts, and technology. We wil also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions and test ideas.

What you can do at home:
Talk to your child about clothes. Examine fabrics together and discuss how the clothes are made. Look at labels to find where the clothes are made and the kind of fabrics were use d to make the fabric. When shopping show your child how clothes are organized and compare prices.

Upcoming dates to remember
Monday January 16th school is closed.
Friday January 27th half day for pre k for parent teacher meeting. Look for sign up times for the meeting.
