*Please note that both 6th and 7th grade will be participating in a Literature Book Fair, which will take place in June. Students are expected to begin reading a novel that he/she has NOT read before. Most of the work on the book report for the literature fair will be done in class after Memorial Day. A rubric will be given with further details. Thank you!

6th grade:

Reading: Final reading test Wed. 5/21

We will also continue writing on how to respond to literature using the "ACE" method. A=Answer the question, C-cite evidence from the text, and E=Expand your answer 

Poetry unit: Identifying and analyzing the various tools poets use in their poems such as alliteration, personification, rhyme scheme, simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia...and etc. 

*Poetry Test: Tues. 5/27

Spelling: A new list will be given, students will be expected to write these words 3x each, define and complete a worksheet for practice. Test- 5/20

7th grade

 

Reading: Reading test 5/27 

*Students will also be participating in literature circle groups and learning about various roles such as the passage master, summarizer, vocabulary finder, character charter, critical thinker, and illustrator. 

Writing Unit:  Autobiography writing. See rubric. Final paper due date has been changed to Wed. May 5/21

Spelling: A new list will be given, students will be expected to write these words 3x each, define and complete a worksheet for practice. Test- 5/19

8th grade:

Reading-
We will finish reading Science Fiction novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry. We will be analyzing how the setting impacts the plot of the story and developing themes such as memory, individuality, and family.

Final reading test: 5/27

We will continue to respond to literature that demonstrates connections, interpretations, and evidence from the text using the A.C.E strategy-

A=Answer the question, C=Cite evidence from the text, E=Expand your answer

Poetry unity: Students will understand various forms of poetry such as lyric and identify the different tools poets in their poems. 

Poetry test: Thurs. 5/22
