Welcome to KA's Schoolnotes!!
SCHEDULE Monday Tuesday Gym Wednesday Music Thursday Gym Friday Music
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.
We will be going outside for recess everyday (weather permitting). Please dress your child appropiately. The kindergarten curriculum is everything that happens to the children from their first step into the building, until the time they leave. The way they are greeted, how they are instructed and how they interact with their peers all plays a part in forming their attitude and motivation in and out of the classroom. One of my year long goals is to create a positive kindergarten environment that nutures continuous progress for each child. Every child is ready to succeed at something and in partnership we can make that happen.
We start each morning with our morning meeting. Our "Star Helper" for the week does the weather, calendar and gumball counting machine for the class. I read to the class one lesson from the children's bible "Special Blessings." It is a bible that takes us on a journey from Genesis through Revalation in a format children can easily relate to. Each lesson focuses on a virtue and tells the children how much God loves them and how wonderfully they were created. During our meeting time I also tell the children what they will be doing for the day. We also sing together and I answer any questions they may have about the activities for the day. NEWSFLASH! NEWSFLASH! NEWSFLASH! NEWSFLASH! Our mascot's name is "Chocolate" Look for him to arrive at your home with his journal and carry bag.
SIGHT WORDS Sight words (popcorn words, snappy words) are high frequency words often seen in print. Many of these words are difficult to sound out and thus require memorization. Sight word recognition is important in developing reading fluency - the rate/speed at which your child reads. The better the fluency, the easier it will be for your child to comprehend what has been read. You are asked to make flashcards to practice the sight words with your child at home. A list of all the kindergrten sight words are on the flash card link on school notes. IDEAS FOR PRACTICE AT HOME Flash Cards, Sight Word Bingo, Sight Word Go Fish, Sight Word Memory Game, and find and circle sight words in magazines and newspaper. This week the class will continue to learn to print and read a sentence. They will be learning about spacing of words, using a capital letter to begin a sentence and a period to end a sentence. They will be writing and illustrating short sentences in their read and write journal. The sentences will contain popcorn words. They will also be printing and illustrating sentences on paper which they will be bringing home. They should be able to read to you the sentence they have written. Reading/Phonics This week we will be reviewing phonics skills. The children will learn to recognize, print and learn the sounds . The children will learn to recognize these words in print, use them in writing assignments and print them on lined paper. There are no new sight words for this week. The writing this week will center around the Thanksgiving books we are reading. MATH- We will continue Chapter 4. The children will identify and make groups with as many as, more, or fewer objects- identify, show, and draw groups through 10 objects- use ordinal numbers first through tenth to identify position-solve problems by using a map. Religion We learn about God with our Families. Weekly Reader Let's Be Thank-ful We will continue our study of Thanksgiving. Watch out for some little Indians and Pilgrims to arrive on your doorstep. The children will stuff a turkey on Monday. We will also visit a few classsrooms dressed as Native Americans to sing for the students.
