Due TUESDAY AFTER MEM. DAY BREAK: The research on the 7 Renaissance Figures we began in class on Thursday and Friday. 

Again, there is no new hw for Tuesday as we will be wrapping up our study of Ren. Art tomorrow with the culmination of our competition. 

There is no new hw for Monday. The art competition has begun though! We have already looked at 3 pieces from the Classical and Renaissance time periods. More art on Monday and Tuesday is in store!

Due FRIDAY - DEAR BOOK AND the students should study and look over the 'Art Chart' on Classical, Med. and Renaissance art. We will be starting an art competition looking at these three different styles of art. The goal is to both educated the students in different styles of art and also possibly increase their interest in museums as well. 

Due THURSDAY - THE students all received a 1/2 sheet of white paper asking them questions about the European map activity we have been working on in class since yesterday. 

Due WEDNESDAY - MAY 16TH - The PINK sheet regarding Chapter 16 - Section I - The Renaissance. We are beginning our study on the Renaissance and all the great works of art and literature from this time period! Towards the end of this week / early next week we will begin our ART COMPETITION  - looking at Classical, Medieval and Renaissance paintings and sculpture.  

FRIDAY - QUIZ -   (QUIZ WAS MOVED FROM THURSDAY) Quiz will be on the Korean HW, Japan Focus Questions and the Japanese Samurai packet we have been working on in class. 

Due TUESDAY - Students are to take THREE of the 13 Khan write ups and create a 4 line poem that rhymes. We worked on some examples in class. Students first wrote down their favorite lyrics to songs they knew and patterned their poems after that. 

*Additionally, students have a three page packet on Chapter 14, Section II regarding Chinese Dynasties - also due on Tuesday.

DUE MONDAY - a 40 word write up x the 13 items on Genghis Khan that we are researching now. Again, each of the 13 items needs a 40 word write consisting of a summary of the item. IF THE STUDENTS DONT HAVE ALL THE INFORMATIN ON THEIR WHITE SHEET THEY CAN AND SHOULD LOOK UP THE INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET. It's not required to do this Internet research, but may help if they have gaps in their information. 

TEST THURSDAY - CHAPTER 13 - Again, the students have a PINK REVIEW SHEET.

No HW due Tuesday as we are working on a Genghis Khan actiivity in class.

NEXT WEEK - WEdnesday - TEST chapter 13. STudents will receive a study guide tomorrow.

No HW over weekend. We will continue our study of Joan of Arc and the 100 Years War on Monday with MCAS on Tuesday and Wednesday in English. 

The students Paper Based Web Pages were due on Thursday, so if they have not passed them in they should do so as soon as possible. 

There is no new HW for Monday, March 19. 

Due Wednesday - Chapter 13, II Students should answer the following focus questions: 

  1. Name a few of the agricultural advances mentioned.

  1. Nobles and freeholders...what did they do?

  1. Explain the revival of towns and expansion of trade. 

  1. Explain trade fairs and the biggest one of the year.

  1. Explain the money economy.

  1. Write a 60 word STORY (with word count) where you describe what it’s like to walk through a town in western Europe (p323-324). Include the sights, sounds and the smells as well. Also include the diseases as well. 

  1. Define guilds and what the goals of guilds were. Blue vocab: masters, apprentices and journeyman. 

Due MONDAY - March 12th - Chapter 13, Section I and the 7 focus questions the students wrote down for hw. The questions concern the Crusades (1st, 2nd and 3rd Crusade). 

Due next Wednesday - a complete Paper Based Web Page at the start of class. 

Due Friday - DEAR book and the single WHITE paper I gave out today regarding 13,I and The Crusades. 

Due Thursday - 5 of the 7 summaries are due on THURSDAY regarding the Paper Based Web Page. 

Due Wednesday - Two of the 7 summaries due for our new project: the Paper Based Web Page project due next week. The instructions are in PINK. 

Due TUESDAY - March 6th:  One-day computer lab project. 

Use the computers to research THREE laws that were created in the drafting of the Magna Carta during the reign of King John in 1215. These laws provided English citizens with certain rights. Use #39 as that was in the hw as well. 

Additionally, research THREE laws that were created / solidified in the drafting of the United States Constitution. You many only use ONE law in regards to the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution - the Bill of Rights. The other TWO should come from the body of the US Constitution. Additionally - and due TOMORROW - is a 30 word write up (w/ word count) - of HOW EACH, INDIVIDUAL CONSTITUTIONAL LAW WILL SOMEDAY/SOMEHOW AFFECT YOUR LIFE.

Due Tuesday - Students should wear shoes with shoelaces or bring shoelaces to class. We will be doing an activity learning about the Feudal System and kings, queens, lords, nobles, serfs and knights. 

Due MONDAY - PINK sheet with 10 Vocabulary items. Students need to define the word and use it in a sentence that shows that they understand the meaning of the word.

Due Wednesday - Feb 8 - Two Column Notes - pages 294-297 on Chapter 12, Section I - We read this in class today and the students should focus on the main rulers at the start of chapter and then Viking invasions at the end of the section. 

Due Tuesday - Feb 7 - Yellow Sheet HW - Take all 16 Muslim Contributions and write down YOUR 5 items that have had the greatest impact on your student life and justify it with 40+ words for each. 

Due THURSDAY - FEB 2 - 11 Sentences using the 11 vocabulary items from our in-class activity on Muslim achievements. Each sentence should have the word underlined and should show the words meaning in context.

Students and Parents - We have been working a 16 station, history-lab in our social studies classes the past few days w/ no homework. Home will begin again on Wednesday. It has been a great student-centered, 'hands-on' activity. 

Due WEDNESDAY - Jan 25th - BOTH the floor plan and the elevation view ("side view") of the student-created mosque. The floor plan needs all 16 items to be labeled; the side view needs only those items that are visible. 

Due MONDAY - Jan 23rd - The final draft of the students Floor Plan of thier self-designed Mosque based on our study of Islam. The students should have 16 different items labeled on their graph paper of their mosque. 

Due THURSDAY - Jan 18 - Two Column Notes on pages 282 283 and 284 from our textbook. 

Due to DOUBLE BLOCKS, the next assignment is due on Friday- which is a DEAR book. 

Due Wednesday Jan, 11 - pages 273-276 Two Coumn Notes from our textbook on our study of Islam.

Due WEDNESDAY - Review HW for the THURSDAY TEST - page 266 - Using Key Terms, Reviewing Facts 2 3 4 5, and Critical Thinking 1 2 3.

DUE FRIDAY- DEAR BOOKS. ADDITIONALLY - THURSDAY JAN 5TH ROME AND BYZANTINE EXAM IN SOCIAL STUDIES. * PARENTS * With you child you can study: Reasons why Rome fell, the Roman Webquest, political cartoons in relation to why Rome fell, Justinian and Theodora, Constantinople, Istanbul, Justinan's Code and why his Empire collapsed over the break! 

Due THURSDAY 12/22 - The following assignment was given to the student on Tuesday:

(Students have been given a 'law' and also chose a state to research. 

1. After researching the specific law and law code from that state, you will construct a similar situation to ones we have studied in class. Do not make up fancy names like those used in the lesson plans. 

2. Create your situations where there is a clear verdict of what the punishment should be for both the Justinian Code and your new state law. Additionally, you must print out OR TYPE (LIMIT IT TO ONE PAGE) and attach the state law to your situation.

  1. A PICTURE is optional. Do NOT research pictures on the computer today. Do that back home or some other time. 

FINAL PRODUCT: 

  1. JUSTINIAN CODE SECTION OF LAW (YOU HAVE THIS ALREADY)
  2. NEW STATE LAW YOU WILL RESEARCH (YOU WILL DO THIS TODAY)
  3. A NEW SCENARIO THAT YOU MAKE UP - THAT is both THOUGHT-PROVOKING AND HAS A CLEAR RESOLUTION FROM BOTH LEGAL CODES.
  4. The decision as well for the state law and the Justinian Code. 

No HW over the weekend for the students. We will finish our Justinain Code vs. California Law activity this week. Additionally, we will be having our annual Geography Bee next week as well. 

Due THURSDAY 12/15 - pages 254-257 Two Column Notes - Main ideas on the left / details on the right for those pages. The students are on their own to decide what are the main ideas and what are the main details. 

PARENTS- We are working on Byzantine Law vs. modern day California / Massachusetts law in the areas of marriage, assault and battery, robbery and wills and inheritances. ANY DISCUSSION YOU COULD HAVE WITH YOUR SONS/DAUGHTERS ON LEGAL ISSUES IN THE NEWS might really help our cause in the classroom. Thanks. 

Due TUESDAY - PAGES 251-254 Two Column Notes (main ideas on left; details on right) for the following items: THEOLOGY, BYZ. SOCIAL HIERARCHY, REGENTS, ECON LIFE, MAJOR INDUSTRY, ART, MOSIAC, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT, EDUCATION (and NAME ALL AREAS OF STUDY AND DRAW PICTURE OF EACH). 

NEW Chapter! HW for 12/9 - Friday - pages 246-248 Two Column Notes on the following terms: Byz. Empire, Constantinople (3 Good things about the city), Justinians Rule, Theodora, AD 532, Military Campaigns, Codes and Laws and the Arts. Students are to make THEIR OWN TWO COLUMN NOTES. 

There is NO homework for Wednesday as well. We are continuing to work on the political cartoons and thier comparison to Ancient Rome. 

There is NO homework for Tuesday, December 5th. We are working in class with current political cartoons and comparing them to the fall of ancient Rome. If the parents want to look at newspaper or Internet political cartoons and discuss them with their sons and daughters that would really help with what we are doing in class. 

Due WEDNESDAY - 11/30 - Students should bring in TWO Political Cartoons from either a newspaper or the Internet. I have shown them examples in class to aid them. We will be using these in our look at Ancient Rome and how and why Rome fell. 

Due MONDAY after Thanksgiving break: "Ancient Rome Rules" 14 Question Sentence Completion. This is a WHITE piece of paper and students need to use their Roman WEBQUEST to help them fill in 14 sentences. 

FRIDAY 11/18 - IN CLASS work day for the ROME WEBquest and the Chinese Culture Catalog. Chinese Culture Catalog (CCC) due Wednesday - the day before Thanksgiving. 

THURSDAY 11/17 WILL BE DEAR DAY and work on the catalog as well.

Due TUESDAY 11/15 - Students should bring in a catalog like Eddie Bauer, LL Bean for our Chinese Culture Catalog Project. 

Due Wednesday 11/16 - all 10 invention summaries from the Pink Sheet

Continuing this week: Students are working on a CHINESE CULTURE CATALOG where they are creating a catalog based on their invention research. 

No new homework for Monday, November 14. We are working on Chinese Inventions in class currently and doing research on those inventions. 

Due Tuesday 11/8 - p.231-232 Two Column Notes From "Science and Technology" section to the end. 

Due MONDAY 11/7 - Extended and Nuclear Family Research. Define both words. Then, in 55 words or more, students should describe what type of family structure THEY live in. 

Next the should make TWO T-charts for pros and cons to both Extended and Nuclear Family's. 

Finally, they have to interview a family member (sorry..but the older the better!) and find out what type of family that family member grew up in. Students should write down the answers of the parent / guardian and then the adult should sign as proof the students did the assignment called HOMELINK.

• Status of Women - under Confucianism - explain, why were baby girls not wanted?, But after marriage - how did women gain respect? Explain fully.

• Society and Economy - 3 main classes - name them,  90% were what?, what were the two threats that peasants faced? Surprisingly, what class was at the BOTTOM of the hierarchy? and name the 4 groups in that group. 

  • Merchants were not allowed to what? 

Due Wednesday - Oct 26- the REMAINDER of the WHITE SHEET - specifically questions 4 thru 7 and then the students must make up their OWN answers for the questions 8 9 and 10 and how each doctrine would respond. 

Due TUESDAY - October 25th - The PINK DOUBLE SIDED CBLT SHEET for Chapter 9, Section II AND the first THREE items on the WHITE sheet that looks at three situations and how each doctrine would respond in those situations. 

Due FRIDAY 10/20 - Double-sided PINK Chapter 9, Section I Two Column Notes on China

ALSO - there is a "Peace" Activity where they need to visualize 12 images from the Pink sheet above. This peace activity is WHITE. 

and a DEAR book as well. 

Due Thursday - White "Uncle Moneybags" FUNsheet. Students have to do a bit of math to understand the concept of one billion in regards to China's current population.
