Welcome to West Rowan Middle School and summer! We hope your time away from school is restful, fulfilling and energizing. Those hectic firstdays of school will be here soon enough. But until August 25 rolls around, siton the porch, have some lemonade and read a good book.

We urge our students to read for pleasure during the summer. Biographies, fiction or even magazines offer interesting reading. If you are looking for recommended reading, try selecting from the list of this year’s Battle of the Books or the recent Newberry Award winners. Both lists include awide variety of genres and interests and can be found online or at the public library.

This year we will be offering students an opportunity to be rewarded for summer reading. With each book that is read, fill out an indexcard to include the student’s name, the name of the book and author and no more than five sentences to summarize the book. Cards will be drawn for prizes and students will be invited to a breakfast the first week of school. We will collect the cards at open house.

Please mark our open house dates on your family’s calendar. Open house for rising sixth graders is August 13 at 6:00 p.m. The open house for rising seventh and eighth graders is a drop in from 4:00 until 6:00 on August 20.
