                NOVEMBER 5, 2009  DAY E   SWIMMING

We began the day at the computer lab reviewing our spelling words. There was a little extra time for some free computer time today! John has been practing his basic facts at home and now has his 100% down to 2 minutes 36 seconds! WHEW! In 5G S.S. we went over yesterday's homework. In math today we did a mini-quiz on 2 digit multiplication. Then we broke the group into three sections so that those needing the most help, mostly because of all the absenteeism the 5th grade has had, those those need to do the regular lesson, and finally those who have consistently shown accuracy with multiplication made up the third group. It worked out well. The first and second group are much closer now and we'll get back to our regular set -up tomorrow. In 5K S.S. we began a completely independent DBQ. From an early look around the room, people have been listening! Terrific!!! After recreation we got set for reading. First I read aloud the "ANGEL" poetry the group wrote for homework. Guess what??Many were well done! They were enjoyable for sure. The sketches of Angel were precious, some pretty, some mysterious, some far-out! Great Job! Then, in an attempt to cut down on my talking(sore-throat appearing),  we read in MRS. BASILfor the remainder of the period. After reading, we worked for a while on our DBQ's. Then we got set for swimming.

            November 4, 2009  DAY D

We began the day at the computer lab working on social studies. In 5G S.S. I read some of the essays aloud pointing out good features. Then we worked on some short answer questions. In math we did a 4 quadrant grid sheet of a flower. The kids did an excellent job with a hard task. Then we went back to double digit multiplication practice. In 5K S.S. we did the same lesson as 5G. After recreation the chorus kids were with Mrs. Crua. Those who remained watched a short Boces video on Mohawk Native Americans. In reading today we passed out MICK HARTE WAS HERE as an independent read. I spoke some about death in the family, as this book has a family dealing with a death. Then we read in FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES. We left the Kincaid children dealing with the "crushed mark" on the velvet. Then we began working on our own sketches and poems about ANGEL. After reading, we worked on a few more S.S. questions. Then we got set for gym.
