FEBRUARY 9, 2012 HOMEWORK: SOC.ST. - STUDY for CENTRAL AMERICAN map test TOMORROW SPELLING - Study Unit 19 spelling words for test TOMORROW
FEBRUARY 9, 2012 We began the day at the computer lab writing "So far" summaries of SWINDLE. Early finishers were able to review Latin American maps and Mathmagician. When we got back in the classroom we read in HAMLET. Hamlet's play was just performed, and the reaction he feared from Claudius occured. What will Hamlet do? Then we reviewed congruent and similar figures. Next, we went on to symmetry. We did a variety of examples and worksheet to follow. Then we completed a caterpillar drawing activity as symmetrically as we could. (You should see Megan's, it's almost perfect!) Next, we read mini-books from BOCES entitled THE HISTORY OF THE MAYA. It had some good information and the photos were terrific. Then off to lunch. After recreation the chorus kids were with Mrs. Crua. Those who remained watched a film from Boces called EVERY STONE HAS A STORY. It was an informative lesson on rocks and crystals. When the kids returned we worked in our language workbook on subject, object, and relative pronouns. Then we wrote a mini-poem and did a small art activity. Next, there was time for some silent reading in SWINDLE and playing card games. Then off to art class. FEBRUARY 8, 2012 We began the day at the computer lab practicing our Latin American maps, the human skeleton, and Mathmagician. CONGRATULATIONS, CONGRATULATIONS! Nick became the 13th MATH ALL-STAR! Now, all the boys in the class are members of the group! Great going! BOYS...a special prize tomorrow! When we returned to the classroom we continued with HAMLET. HAMLET was very upset because he heard from the apparition that his Uncle Claudius murdered his father, the King of Denmark. Then we went to the math text and worked on congruence, motion, and similar figures. Then we did some related worksheets. Next, we discussed what was read yesterday in SWINDLE with Mrs. Nordling. Then we had some time to read a chapter together. Then we switched back over to math and worked on Tangrams, ancient Chinese puzzles. Aleah was able to put the seven shapes back into the square shape very rapidly. Great going Aleah! Then we practiced many assorted animals and figures with the tangram pieces. We chose some of our favorites and glued them down. (The kids have some paper tangram puzzles to try out on families this evening!) Then off to lunch. After recreation we finished up the tangram puzzles. Then we had Emma, Aleah, Abby, Drew, Brandon, Luke, and Isaiah act the roles of the main characters in ROMEO & JULIET in a short version of the classic play. Great Job players! Then we watched a Boces video entitled, "LOST KINGDOM OF THE MAYA." It is an excellent piece that really aids in the comprehension of this Mesoamerican culture. Then we worked on some Latin American coloring activities. Then off to the library. FEBRUARY 7, 2012 We began the day at the computer lab writing 5W poetry about ROMEO & JULIET. Mrs. Nordling came in for the afternoon as I have a dental appointment with Dr. D'Addio!
