Mrs. Thornton’s 2nd Grade
Week of June 7th
Friday, June 11th is an early dismissal day for students - School will be dismissed at 12:15 PM
Wednesday, June 9th is our Second Grade Award Ceremony in the Auditorium from 10:20 - 11:20 AM – This is a school uniform day. Parents are invited to attend and you may stay and have lunch with your child. Please let me know in advance if you are going to stay for lunch. Parents should plan on leaving after lunch as our normal school day will resume at that time.
This week our class will be reading different cultural versions of the Cinderella tale. The spelling and vocabulary words will come from that unit.
Spelling and Vocabulary Words coach – a large, covered, four-wheeled carriage used in the 16th to 19th centuries. folktale – a story, usually of anonymous authorship and containing legendary elements, made and handed down orally among common people. god-mother – female godparent: A woman who acts as an advisor or mentor to someone. A person who sponsors a child, as at Baptism, and, traditionally, assumes responsibility for the child’s faith. royalty – the rank, status, or power of a king or queen. step-mother – female stepparent. The person who has married one’s parent after the death or divorce from the other parent. wand – a rod regarded as having magical powers, as one used by a magician or fairy. wicked – morally bad or wrong, acting or done with evil intent. |
