Thank you, students for a great concert at Ham Hall/UNLV. I also thank each parent for supporting your child and our school band program. Last night's performance was absolutely the best. I look forward to working with you and your kids next year in band.

Dear Parents and Students,

Today is our final concert for the year. The students have been working very hard to put on the best concert ever. Students are to be in their seats by 5:25 p.m at UNLV's Ham Hall. Please don't be late.

Beginner Band

You will be very surprised with how much these kids have advanced over the past few months. Most of them have been placed in either Junior Varsity or Varsity for next year. I strongly encourage them to do the summer booklet that I emailed to everyone. If they did not get one, please email with an updated email address so they can get the latest information for next year.


What's next?

Summer is our next big event. All returning students should have a regular practice schedule for the summer. Parents are asked to monitor the practice time that their child is putting in. In order to be the very best band, we have got to have the best prepared students.
JV/Varsity Information

The big plan for this group is to be able to do several local performances other than Christmas and Spring. These extra performances will help us be better prepared for our out-of-town competition. I ask each of you to plan on participating in every fundraiser that we have so that we can reduce the overall cost of our special event for next year. Each of you will be needing tuxedo shirt, black pants or skirt, black dress shoes and black socks. The band will complete their outfit with the rest that's needed. If you purchase these things now, they will be cheaper.

Symphonic Band

To all future symphonic band members: You will be issued a complete formal band outfit. We will start issuing these in early September 2009. You will be responsible for keeping these outfits clean and in good repair. In addition, you will need dress black shoes and a white tuxedo shirt. We are planning a very special event for next year. Students will have to fundraise as well as you the parents. The more we do together the better and cheaper things will be for all of us. If you would like to be a chaperone for next year, please let me know. Being a chaperone is a year long committment, not just for the field trip. The will be posting as much of what we will be doing next year this summer so be on the lookout.



Special Information
Symphonic band uniform turn in to start Friday May 22, 2009. All uniforms must be turned in by Tuesday May 26, 2009.

Varsity and Juniro Varsity uniform parts must be turned in by May 20th.

There will be a fine for all outfits turned in late. If you loose anything, it must be paid for before the end of the year.

Practice sheets are important. This is our way of keeping your child on a practice schedule and keeping a positive grade for them on my role book. Please make sure you are signing their sheets and that you are hearing them practice each day.

Absent Policy: For all work or assignments given during class, a student will be given the CCSD required three days to get the assignment done and turned to receive normal credit for that assignment.

Late Work Policy: Any assignments other than normal practice at home, will be given one day to be turned in without loosing points. After that, for each day late, the student will loose one letter grade.

Extra Credit: Earned extra credit is awarded to those students who offer their time to other band students by helping them improve their skills. This credit can be earned before or after school and must be observed by me, the band teacher.

Academic dishonesty Policy: There is absolutely no room for dishonesty. If a student is caught cheating on an exam, their paper will be taken and graded at that point and their grade will be that minus 10%. A make-up test or exam will not be given.

Tardy policy: A student must be in the room and engaged in an activity that is conducive to preparing for class. Being in the room when the bell rings is not considered on time for class. See student handbook for more detailed information.

Student assistance: If a student is having trouble that has not been identified by the teacher, they must make contact with the teacher for special help.
