- Wednesday is p.e. day. Wear tennis shoes! The children may also purchase ice cream on Wednesdays for $.60.
- Library books are due on Thursdays.
ABC's & 123'sReading: Encourage your child to use these reading strategies at home to help decode unfamiliar words:
- use picture clues
- sounding out the words looking at the letters from left to right
- look for small word chunks or word endings
- look at the vowels and decide if the word is a long vowel or short vowel word
- skip the word you can't figure out, read the rest of the sentence to see if the context of the sentence helps you decode the word, and go back and reread it
*In addition to decoding words, you should also be working on reading comprehension. This is a huge component of reading! Before, during, and after reading ask your child questions about the story. After reading, have your child retell the story in his or her own words without looking through the pages.
Math: Some concepts to work on at home include addition and subtraction, plane and solid shapes, and patterns.
Writing: Encourage your child to write at home. Look for opportunities that make writing fun such as writing grocery lists, writing letters to friends or family members, or writing a menu for dinner. Check to see if your child is using correct writing conventions such as capital letters where appropriate, punctuation, and spacing.
