We finished reading Alice in Wonderland today, as a wrap up activity everyone is doing a story illustration. They started them in class today. The kids don't know it yet but we are planning on watching the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland tomorrow at school.

The literature circles are going well.We are about one third of the way through the books. I can not believe we are almost finished for the year. I just need the kids and everyone else to hang on until the Lawn Carnival. I still have some end of year assessments I need to slide in. They have started the last large writing assignment. It is a five paragraph benchmark essay that I keep. The final copy is done in pen and in cursive. We did the brain storming together and most of the students have already started their rough draft.

Reminder that weekly writings are posted below, several people have not passed in the last two weeks. I am also missing several of the April book reports. Grades will be closing before you know it, please make sure all work is into me  by June 8, 2012.

Grade 5 is trying something new. We are doing literature circles. This is to help model how to discuss books as opposed to short reading selections. Each person in the circle has a job or role. We are switching and rotating the roles each section so the kids will be able to try as many roles as possible. This activity involves all of grade 5. The group of thirty-eight were divided into two groups of 19, half of Miss. G's kids are with me and half of mine are with her. One group is reading The Fantastic Mr. Fox and the other group is reading James and the Giant Peach. (If there is time the groups will be flipped and do the second book.)
