Mrs. Cohen's Wish List for the Holidays: (updated 11/23/09) -16 oz. -20 oz.bags of Poly-fil ($2.50 at Walmart/Craft Section) We need 25 bags in all to make our t-shirt pillows -COUPONS for: A.C. Moore, Michael's and Jo-Ann Fabrics from Sunday newspapers each week! -plastic spoons (60 spoons) -plastic forks (25) -paper plates (60) -napkins -paper/plastic beverage cup -holiday sweets, trinkets or school supplies for our holiday bags (25 students) -snacks for Polar Express Day after lunch -white or brown paper lunch bags (count of 25) -donated "family-friendly" magazines (ex: Family Circle, Good Housekeeping, Ladies' Home Journal) -plastic baggies (sizes ranging from sandwich to gallon) -tissues -envelopes (letter and business size)
Volunteers to "get crafty" with our students after our pancake breakfast on Friday, December 18. Come in your pajamas! After breakfast, we'll craft from 9:30 - 10:30 and 11:10 - 12:46....until (lunchtime!)
Parents: Please send in one new or used, short sleeved t-shirt that is near and dear to your child's heart so we may immortalize it by making a huggable pillow out of it. We will need these t-shirts anytime before 12/14, so we can prepare them on the sewing machine for your child to stuff them and hug them during the last week of school while he/she reads. Examples of t-shirts to send in: plain white t-shirt for student autographs, outgrown team shirts, rock band t-shirts, conversation t-shirts, favorite character t-shirts, etc.
Mark your Calendars: Tuesday, 11/24 - Sanibel Field Trip with Mrs. McEnroe's class - Ding Darling/Shell Museum (All Day). There will be no need to bring money. We do not stop at the gift shops. There is no more room on the bus, but please feel free to meet us in the parent drop off area at 9:20 a.m and follow us to the Sanibel Shell Museum. Once there, you may stay with your child on the guided tour in the Shell Museum while the other 4th grade class goes to Ding Darling. After our museum tour, we will have a picnic lunch (bring your own) at the Shell Museum before going to Ding Darling on the bus. We will have room on the bus at Ding Darling since Mrs. McEnroe's class will be at the Shell Museum for the 2nd half of the day. We'll all meet back at the Shell Museum parking lot to pick up Mrs. McEnroe's class. If you'd like to sign your child out from the field trip at that time, please see me for a sign-out sheet Friday, 12/11 - Pizza Celebration (Division Facts Mastered) served during lunch; outside on picnic tables. Friday, 12/11 - Everblades Hockey Night for Allen Park Monday, 12/14 - Stuff It and Hug It Week (Stuff and Hug your very own T-shirt Pillow to read and relax with.) Friday, 12/18 - Pancake Breakfast with Parents - 8:45 - 9:30 (PJ's and Presents (Crafting Stations) Parents may wear their pajamas too!) 9:30 - 10:30 - Crafting Presents; 10:30 - 11:10 - P.E.; 11:10 - 12:46 - Craft until lunch at 12:46. Snacks and Relax with Polar Express movie in the afternoon. 12/19 - Winter Break Begins
Monday, November 23, 2009 NO Homework, but to pack a lunch, wear closed-toe shoes and be at school on time! Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m.

Time 12:46 - 1:11 - Lunch 1:20 - 3:00 - Lang. Arts/Science/Soc. Studies 3:00 - 3:10 - Ready for Dismissal 3:10 - Parent Pick-up/Bus Release 3:30 - After School Released * Day 4 = Art 9:40 - 10:10 *Day 7 = Tech Lab 9:40 - 10:10
Behavior Expectations: Correlate with the intermediate report card (1-8) in Personal Development. Behavior Expectations by #: 1. I pay attention. 2. I follow school rules. 3. I follow directions. 4. I complete tasks (on time). 5. I display positive attitudes. 6. I work well with others. 7. I work independently. 8. I work cooperatively with others. Accelerated 5+ non-fiction books passed 100+% of point goal 85+% reading comprehension 2 Literacy Skills Tests passed on our read alouds: The Little Prince and The Giver Suggestions for A.R. reading at home: 30+ minutes each night or 30+ pages per night or .5 point book (non-fiction read 3x) and success will be yours! Communication Weekly Progress Reports will go home each Friday. Look inside the brown envelope on Friday for a Communication Folder. The contents of the 2 pocket-folder are to be "kept home" or "signed and returned" on Monday. Information on the weekly progress report will include: reading progress and comments/notes from me. Besides the daily communication we will share through the student's agenda, this is a weekly update that will keep our home-school connection on target. Email me from this website! Sign up under "notify me" for weekly updates to your email address. Homework Your child is required to read for 30 minutes per evening (Monday through Thursday.) Additional assignments will be written by the student in their agendas. Homework is checked daily and all homework must be turned in by Friday to receive credit. Please make a note in your child's agenda if homework was not completed because of difficulty or family commitments.
