SPELLING HOMEWORK INFORMATION

This we started our differentiated spelling lists. Your student completed a Words Their Way Spelling Inventory in class that assessed their spelling pattern/sounds strengths and weaknesses. Based on the assessment, I have determined which area (short vowels, blends/diagraphs, or long vowels) that your child is in need of instruction. In our reading groups, your child will receive instruction that is focused around their specific needs. Your child will now have 10 spelling words each week. Five of their spelling words will be based around the spelling pattern/sound we are focusing on in their reading group that week. The other five words will be words from our decodable books. Although your child will complete center activities that will practice their spelling words it is very important that they practice their words at home too! I will make adjustments to the groups as I see fit based on their spelling test scores and ability in reading groups. However, as always if you have any questions/concerns please feel free to contact me via email.

BOOK IT! INFORMATION

The BOOK IT! program is in full swing! Don’t forget to initial the monthly calendar in your child’s agenda each night they read for 15 minutes. If they reach our goal of 15 minutes on 20 nights they will earn a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.

 A Few Things To Remember...

-Spelling homework is due on Friday. Please make sure your child's name is on their packet!

-Math homework is sent home as it corresponds with a lesson. It should be completed that evening and returned the next day.

-If your child needs a spoon/fork to enjoy their afternoon snack please pack it in their bag.

-If you child is going to be a car rider please write a note on that date in their agenda.

-Students are permitted to bring their own books to read during DEAR Time (no magazines or comic books please!) Just as with indoor recess toys, I can not take responsibility for broken or misplaced items.

-AR tests are only given on Tuesday and Thursday. Don't forget to initial log to show me their ready to test.

-Our room can get a little chilly so it's a good idea to leave a dress code approved sweater/sweatshirt in your child's bookbag. Please make sure to write their name on the tag so it doesn't get lost.
