The Week of November 16, 2009 Mrs. Corfield’s Class Events: November 17: Fall fundraiser money/orders due. November 19: Fifth grade performs at the PTA Meeting at 7:00 p.m. November 19: Picture retake day—the packet of unwanted pictures must be returned to school. November 20: Our annual turkey trot; the children will walk around the outside of the building for fitness. (Refreshments will be provided along the way.) From November 17 to 20 we will have a canned-food drive. November 20: Report cards go home November 23-27: No School—Thanksgiving Break Revised Sight Words: I am adding the sight words for the third six weeks. It took me some time to print them and cut them out, but they are ready. The cards for the third six weeks are colored green. If your child does not have the green set, please send them back to school for updating. If your child is able to recognize all of their sight words, it would not hurt your child at all to learn how to spell and write the words or go ahead on the printed list for the year that is sent home each six weeks with words circled that your child did not know. Another idea would be to add to the sight word ring those words your child does not recognize when they are reading. Themes: Week of November 16: Thanksgiving; Math Concepts of More, Fewer, and Zero Week of November 30: Gingerbread Men, Numbers 6-10 There will be a gingerbread person sent home prior to Thanksgiving break for the children to decorate and return to school. Report Cards: On Friday, November 20, report cards will go home. I cannot stress the importance of each child learning their sight words. New areas being evaluated for the next six weeks will include the following: using 1:1 correspondence to read; writing legibly; recognizing numerals to 20; writing numerals to 20; using 1:1 correspondence to count; and comparing quantities using the words same, equal, one more, more than, and less than. |
