POETRY UNIT: Students are working on their Poetry Portfolios, which are due on Tues.,Feb 2. They will have some time in class, but should be working on the project at home as well. Students have been given handouts with all of the literary terms they need to know for this unit. They should be learning a few words at a time(each night) until they have mastered all of the terms. The end of the unit test will be on Wed., Feb 3. Important Dates to remember: Tues, Feb 9: Poetry Project due Wed, Feb 10: Unit Exam Thur, Feb 11: Early Release/Parent Conferences Fri, Mon, & Tues, Feb 12,15 & 16: No School HAVE A WONDERFUL BREAK!! ****************************************************************** We are now in our Oral Tradition unit. We will study legends, myths, tall tales, fables and fairy tales. Over the next couple of weeks we will learn the characteristics of folktales and terms, discuss urban legends, read and discuss several different types of folktales, and watch videos of stories from different cultures. Students will also write their own folk tale - they have already started working on their drafts. A quiz over folktales will be given on Friday, Jan 15. Important dates: Mon, January, 18 - MLK, Jr. Day - no school Wed, Jan 20 - 8th grade Writing Exam Fri, Feb 5 - Progress Reports ************************************************************************ I hope everyone had a great, restful Thanksgiving holiday. We will continue to work in our novel unit. The novel we are reading is "Izzy Willy Nilly" by Cynthia Voight. Students have a vocabulary and chapter question packet they are responsible for bringing to class everyday and completing the assignments as we move through the book. The packet will be turned it at the end of the novel. We will have a vocabulary test on chapters 1 - 10 on Friday, Dec 4. I will be assigning our unit project this week...more information on the project to come. I-Cue is up-to-date. Please check to see if your child has any missing assignments. Have a great week!
