In the Art Room !!! Introduction:The art room is a fun place to be. This year we will be working on projects that encourage creative problem solving and critical thinking skills. We will be looking at and producing art work based on the elements and principals of art. We will start our journey with the exploration of line. Please check out our Grade Level Pages for more details about the fun things we are doing in the Art Room. Art Room Schedule: All students will have art once a week (Same Day and Time each week) 3rd - 5th Grade classes are 45 min. K - 2nd Grade classes are 30 min. Mondays and Tuesdays I am at Cleveland Elementary. Wednesdays - Fridays I am at Faith Elementary. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns. What to Wear: Art is always a fun hands on way to learn, but it can also be messy. Please make sure that your students were paint friendly cloths on Art days. I am in the process of collecting enough paint shirts to have a class set, but right now I only have a few. *** If you have any old men's button up shirts that you no longer wear, I am looking for some that I can turn into paint shirts for the art room. Please send them in on your child's art day or bring them by the main office (Please let the office know that they are for Mrs. Lewis' Art Class). Rules, Rewards, and Discipline: The Art room should always be a fun and safe place to learn and explore new things. In order for this to happen all students are expected to follow the following rules and procedures. The students are expected to: 1. Listen and Follow directions 2. Work Quietly 3. Use Kindness and Share 4. Use Cleanliness and Help Others 5. Always put Safety first If they always do their best and follow the rules... They are Awesome Artists and Super Stars. ***Each class tries to earn a super star each time they come to the Art room. One super star is worth 5 min. of art/ game time on Fun Free Day. There will be a Fun Free Day at the end of each semester. Students will get to chose their art or game activity by rotating through centers in the art room (students choice). However there are Consequences: ***In the art room we call breaking a rule "Spilling the Paint" As a Class: We start all class periods on Green. As we progress if the class as a whole is having difficulties we spill a Drip (Yellow), If they don't improve then it becomes a Drop (Red) and if they still don't improve it becomes a Splat (black). If a class can improve their behavior their color can move up, if they don't it continues to go down. If at the end of class they are on Green or Yellow then they receive a Super Star (5 min.), if they end up on Red or Black then they don't receive a Super Star. At the end of the 9 weeks we add up their stars and that is how much time they get on Fun Free Day (Art and Game centers). As Individuals: A couple can not ruin it for the whole class. If there are just a few students having a difficult time then... 1. The student receives a warning (name on board) 2. The student has spilled their own paint (broken a rule) and they get a Paint Spill Slip put into the class folder and they lose 5 min. of activity time on Fun Free Day. 3. A note will be sent home and or phone call to parents 4. Office referral and parents are notified |
