Upcoming Events

June 2021:

Hello.  If you somehow ended up here looking for me, I'd like to let you know that I am now a retired guy.  I know I seem far too young to retire, but after 42 years in the classroom I decided it was time to discover what I really want to do.  If you'd like to contact me, try [email protected]

Be well!

Weekend update Sat/Sun Sept 12-13, 2020. Lucy would like to give you all two thumbs up for the fine job you've been doing. Overcoming sketchy internet connections, lagging Teams talk, and dozens of complex platforms isn't easy, and most of you have excelled. Thanks!

By the end of the day Sunday you should be done with VLA 1-6 and the North Africa Quiz. Let me know if you hare having any problems.

Next week the Academic Quiz Team will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 4-5 PM via Zoom. You can sign up at new.schoolnotes.com on my quiz team page. The Zoom code is

Be well!

Thursday/Friday. September 10-11. Friday is the anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, and we're going to look at those events, how they changed the world (if in fact they did) and examine the goals of terrorism. I know, serious stuff.

We will do VLA 6 Terrorism together in class. All other VLA assignments 1-5 should be completed by the close of business Friday.

VLA 6 should allow you to open it, write on it, and submit it without downloading or anything! Here's hoping!

Finally, I've added a North Africa Quiz in the Resources. It is open note and due by Sunday night.

Be well!

Wednesday, September 9, 2020: As our principal Mr. Martin would say, it's hump day! By the end of the day today you should be done with VLA 5, all about the Electoral College. That goes for you characters in periods 1,3,and 5 too. After today, VLA's 1-4 will earn late grades if not submitted. Time to be timely!
Tomorrow and Friday we're going to look at the events of 9/11 2000. I'll also be assigning an open note quiz on North Africa. See you tomorrow/Friday.

Monday/Tuesday, Sept. 8-9: Welcome back! Today during 4th and 6th period we'll discuss the uniquely American institution called the Electoral College. VLA 5 is a WS that goes along this discussion. For those of you in periods 1,3,and 7, you will get to do it as homework today or tomorrow.
Be sure to check VERGE and infinite Campus, and take care of any missing assignments. You should now be done through VLA 4. Send an email to me if you are dazed and confused.

Labor Day Weekend update Sept. 5-7: Today i put grades into IC for all assignments through VLA 3. Some of you may notice some zeroes- if it's something you didn't do, solve that. If you did it, check in VERGE to see if was submitted in a format I can access. Word documents and PDF's tend to be good, google docs bad. You can find all assignments in the Resources. Don't forget VLA 4 Hail to the Chief is due by Monday at 11:59 PM. Be well, and don't enjoy the weekend too much!
Oh- if you are deeply troubled by Verge, send an email to me and we'll solve you.

Thursday/Friday, Sept. 3-4, 2020. Welcome back. Here are today's highlights:
1. Watch short video clip about the Aswan Dam,
2. Assign VLA 4 Hail to the Chief, a WS about government types. We're going to try and send you off to channels so you can work on it together- but each person is responsible for turning in their own paper on Verge.
3. By the end of the day Monday, you should be done with VLA 1,2,3,4. After that, we'll explore late penalties.
4. Enjoy the weekend!

Wonderful Wednesday, September 2: Lovely day to finish VLA 2 Notes on N Africa and VLA 3 The Desert video. Be sure to submit both on Verge. A suggestion- just do them as word documents, save them on your computer, and then submit it in Verge. Let me know what isn't working for you. Be well!

Monday/Tuesday August 30 - 31:
1. Finish notes on North Africa and VLA 2. Once again I'll talk too much.
2. Brief video on the Aswan Dam
3. Assign video on The Desert. Watch the video and complete VLA 3 by the close of business on Wednesday.
4. Be well!

Thursday/Friday, Aug. 27 - 28: What? The weekend already? Here's today's plan.
1. Intro to North Africa Kahoot
2. Notes on North Africa. I'll talk (too much) and you fill in the North Africa notes outline located in the resources as VLA 2. If you can't multitask and listen, watch and write at the same time, no worries. I'll post the notes in the Resources later on.
3. Finish your map of North Africa if you haven't already done so.
4. Enjoy the weekend. Next week we get serious!
5. Be well!

Monday/Tuesday, Aug. 24-25, 2020:  Today our guidance counselor Mrs. Stovall will visit for a few minutes, and then we'll finally read the article 100% American to address cultural diffusion.  A map of North Africa is also being assigned, due Thursday or Friday, depending on your schedule.  The map is in Verge, or available in the Files here as a back up plan.

Thursday/Friday, Aug. 20 - 21, 2020.  Hello.  This is the "Plan B" page if you can't get on to VERGE.  Today we will discuss the 5 items lists.  Be well!

Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020

Welcome to Day 1 CE (Covid Era). Today is half day, and only periods 1,3,5,and 7 will meet. I've already sent out a TEAMS invite, but if you didn't get an email here are the links for my Monday classes. I'll post the Tuesday class links tomorrow. Trying to keep things simple.

Every day for me will begin with an announcement here on VERGE. I will post assignments in the resources and ask that things be turned in that way as well. Don't worry if nothing works right at first. Or at second. We will get through this!

Friday, Aug. 14, 2020:  Hi there! Welcome to Mr. Donegan's schoolnotes page. VERGE will be my main way of communicating and making assignments.  This is largely a backup plan. I'll be posting daily assignments and updates here and on VERGE until we get to meet face to face.  I'm sure you have a lovely face so I'm looking forward to the day. Meanwhile, if you are reading this page you are very ambitious! Now go read a book and I'll see you virtually soon!

Monday, May 18, 2020:    The final week of school!   Feels a bit anticlimactic, doesn't it?  Anyway two things today.  First of all I'll be updating the grade book.  I will be checking VLA 14-16 and Test 6 today, so if you submit older stuff on VERGE send a note to me or I may not check it.

Tuesday, April 28, 2020:  VLA 11, VLA 12 and VLA 13 are attached here for those of you troubled by VERGE.  No worries.  This is all the stuff on Japan and Korea. Let me or Mr. Dickert know if you are still having email or login issues.  Be well!

Wednesday, April 22:  Another update from Mr. Dickert.  Let me know if you are still experiencing issues- with your computer that is!

Hello everyone
I have an update. If their password has been reset to Dekalb2020 And they have a chrome book they will need to do the following
Step one log out of the chrome book
Step two on the right side of their name there will be a down arrow
Step three click the down arrow and choose to remove data
Step four type in S number and password

This will remove any data that was stored on the device and allow the student to re-log into the chrome book and they should be able to access launchpad and clever verge infinite campus and Microsoft

If you have Students that still have problems logging in please let me know

Tuesday, April 21:  Frustrating day with the password chaos.  Test 4 China is now posted on VERGE.  Can't post that here.  The next chapter packet, Ch. 9 Japan and Korea is in the files here and will be up in VERGE shortly.  Below is what we heard from Mr. Dickerts our IT guy.  Mr Valley also suggested this

 https://www.dekalbschoolsga.org/virtual-learning-support-ticket/

To do an online request to reset password.

Good luck everyone!

From Mr. Dickert, our computer guy:

678-676-1188

When they called they need to press the number two. Then press 0#. The system will respond that number does not exist. Then press 0# again. The system will respond max numbers of attempts reach please hold. It will then connect you with a live person where the student can reset their password

Thursday, April 16:  VLA 9 is now on VERGE and in the files section here.  One flle contains the notes, the other is a fill in the blank assignment (formerly a quiz).  Test next Tuesday on China!  Be well!

Tuesday, April 14:  If you're on this page, something must be fussy on VERGE!  If you're looking for work to do, scroll on down to the files where all the chapter packets are posted, along with VLA 8 map of China.  Let me know if you aren't having fun yet! Be well!

Tuesday, March 31. Time marches on, and we've reached the end of March. Enjoy the April showers. No new work today- sort of. The S. Asia test should be done by the end of the day Wednesday. I think the problem with the map was solved (open it as a separate document) and once you start the test finish it in one long brutal session. Lots of you have finished it already. Let me know of any problems. I am also putting the Chapter 8 packet up as VLA 7. It will be due after spring break on April 14, just like it would be if we were still in school. Probably easiest for me if you download it as a word document, do it online, and submit it to VERGE. If you need it, the Ch. 8 WS is also posted here in the files. No other new stuff until Thursday, when I may do some notes! Maybe even do them live via ZOOM! Stay tuned. Learn things, and be well.

Monday, March 30:  Finally!  Test 3 South Asia is now live!  Oh boy!  Please ignore the typos.  I'm still new at this.  The test should allow you unlimited time and the ability to skip around, but once you submit it is a done deal.  Use your book and the notes.  You can google if you want, but you'll be wasting time.  Everything came from the notes and the text.  I didn't put a deadline on the Test, but get it done by Wednesday if you please.  Next up- the Chapter 8 packet!

Friday, March 27:  Good morning. Hard to believe it has been two weeks, and harder to believe that we won't be back in school for at least another 4 weeks. Here's hoping for a great May-cover (use a long o).

When last we met, I told some classes that this would be your 9/11, an event as significant to your generation as Pearl Harbor was to your great grandparents and as the sacking of Rome in 476 was to me. Years from now, some eye-rolling 13 year old is going to ask you what it was like during the time of the corona virus (probably an assignment from an aging Social Studies teacher). What will you say to them? I imagine you are already journaling such things for your ELA teachers, but ponder it, maybe even write something down now to look at later. Will you talk about toilet paper shortages, exciting VLA's, faulty computers, entertaining presidential press conferences, warm family bonding, endless video games, the absence of team sports, spectacular bike wrecks...what will it be??? That eye-rolling child of yours will want to know!

For today, no new work. Watch CNN 10 because Fridays are still awesome, and maybe look at the Geography Now videos on Pakistan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqP2fiqlVok and Afghanistan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipVw772hCrM (Most of you already watched India). I'm going to catch up on grading and get a test on India posted for Monday. If you have your notes and your book it will be easy. No worries. Contact me via email [email protected] if you have any concerns or just want to chat.

Be well!

Wed. Mar. 25 update:  Posted an assignment on VERGE that is too large for this website.  If you can't handle it on VERGE, just let me know- no worries. I will eventually get it posted here.  Look for an Indian Ch. 7 test Friday.  It will be open note/open book.

Week of Mar. 23 - 27:  Hiya.  VLA 1,2,3,and 4 are loaded both on Verge and schoolnotes.  While Verge is the preferred way for you to submit stuff, I can take it by emal or even physical copies.  Let me know if you need stuff mailed to you via the USPS.  I can do that.  Looking at a Ch. 7 S. Asia Test on Wednesday or Thursday.  Still working that out. Study things!

From the governor, 3/16/2020

Gov. Brian Kemp ordered the closure of all public elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools in Georgia starting Wednesday through the end of the month as the state scrambles to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Welcome to day one of year 2020 CV!  We're in a bit of a paradox- if few people get sick, then we overreacted and closing school wasn't necessary.  If many are ill, then we didn't react quickly or strongly enough.  A paradox! Regardless, I hope everyone is doing well.

I will post assignments here and in VERGE.  Copies of assignments will be on VERGE and the schoolnotes files.  Pace yourself- stay busy, but not crazy.

Here's the plan for this week:

Mon. Mar. 16:  Get out of bed.  Get dressed- don't lounge around in your pj's.  Eat breakfast.  Brush your teeth.  Bathe.  Don't annoy your siblings or your parents.  Make your bed.  Briefly argue with your parents over something trivial so they know you are feeling OK. These are daily requirements.

Watch CNN10 to see how the world according to Carl Azus is doing.

Finish your map of S. Asia.  It should be done by tomorrow, and will be collected when next we have school. A copy is in the files section of schoolnotes.

Work on VLA 1 Human Rights.  It should be done on Verge, but I've also put a copy in the files on schoolnotes.

Tue. Mar. 17:  Watch CNN10.  Work on VLA 1 Human Rights.

More to come as I get things loaded up!  Stay tuned!

*** The building will be locked up until school reopens!  If you have any stuff up here (books, instruments, etc...) come and get them today before 2 PM!

Well, it looks like we'll be out for a while.  The county says indefinitely.  I'm betting we'll be out three weeks and will come back after spring break, but we might also be back in a few days.  Check here early and often for updates and assignments.  Mr. Hite asks that you check his schoolnotes page as well.  We will also use VERGE.  Don't expect any exciting work until Sunday or so, but do plan to spend several hours each day learning things!  Stay tuned!

I will be generally be available between 9 and 4 to answer emails.

Grades will be posted by the end of the day today.  These are the grades that are used to determine the spring honor roll.

If you have a new connections class, they will be posting material in VERGE as well.

Be careful out there!
