Week of July 27, 2009
Our first day of school went great! The children did a great job following our classroom procedures. We look forward to getting to know them better each day. Thanks for sending in classroom supplies this week. Having supportive parents means so much! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Have a wonderful week!
Quote of the Week
"Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished them."

Our Centers
Guided Reading: Students will be called during center time to work in small groups with me. We work on reading skills and strategies to read books that are best suited to each specific groups reading needs. Groups are determined by students DRA reading assessment scores and may change frequently throughout the year as students progress.
Reading/Retell: Students will read theme related books and then complete an activity.
Word Center: Students work on various phonics and word skills. They may complete different activities/games using spelling words and vocabulary words.
Writing Center: This is an independent station where students work on journal writing. Students may be given a writing prompt to answer. They are encouraged to use COPS (Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, Spelling). Students are also allowed to simply free write about stories or events that may be going on in their lives. Students may complete other types of writing assignments such as letters and postcards.
Listening/Recording Center: Students will listen to stories using headphones and complete an activity.
Great Things To Do!
1. Read more, watch T.V. less.
2. Help your child with homework but don't do it for them.
3. Read often to your child and let them read to you.
4. Practice math flashcards often!
5. Listen attentively as they tell you about their day.
6. Tell your child how wonderful he/she is each day.
7. Make sure your child goes to bed early, eats a good breakfast and gets to school on time each day!
