Mrs. Singletary's Class Please review with your child the letters we have studied so far this year. They are: L, O, G, H, T, P, A, M, N, R, S, F, Ii, B, C, K, O, U, Z, E,This week's letter is D and next week we will focus on the letter Y. In class we review, daily, sight words and the letters and sounds we have learned so far. Your child should be able to count sets through 20 and write and identify those numbers. Also, they will be evaluated on counting objects up to 30. We still emphasize your child writing his/her name correctly... upper case letters only on the first letter of first and last name, letters should be proportional and formed correctly. This 9 weeks your child should know his /her address, city, state, country, and continent. I realize that is a lot for a kindergarten child, so your reinforcement at home will be a tremendous help. Progress reports will go out Wed., Feb. 3. The concepts mentioned above are being evaluated this time, as well as others. Keep in mind that "In Progress" means that we are working on a skill and may not have completed it in order to fully evaluate OR that your child needs some improvement on the skill in order to "master" it. Also, realize that the critera for most concepts (standards) change each 9 weeks. On the last report card, your child may have received a 3 (highest score) on a skill, but the next 9 weeks receives a 2 -- that would be because the "bar has been raised" -- greater expectations to meet. It does NOT mean your child has regressed. We realize this new "standards based" report card may be difficult to understand and interpret. Refer to the back of the report card (is not on prog. report) and to the report card information that was sent home with the 1st report card for some clarification. You are also welcomed to contact me. The children are learning so much...and it is so exciting to see! Thank you for your part in helping your child to succeed! Sincerely, Lenley Singletary (lsingletary@mcsdga.net)
