Welcome to our 2009-2010

Milton Elementary/Middle School

School Year!

We would especially like to welcome our brand new students & their parents to our Milton Family.  We hope you will find that there truly is "No Place Like MIlton".

If we can be of any assistance to you during the course of the year, please do not hesitate to contact us!

A Parent Sympsium was held Thursday, November 12, in the School Library.  Two Licensed Professional Counselors ,Mr. Dan Jurek & Ms. Melissa LeFort, spoke to the parents of 5th - 8th graders on current issues facing our pre-teens and teens.  They gave information on ways parents can help students deal with issues such as bullying, "mean girls", self-injurious behaviors, and social networking.  Thanks to all the parents who attended.

The EXPLORE Test was given to all eighth graders.  The EXPLORE Test, which is set up similarly to the ACT exam, focuses on the four core subjects, Math, English, Science, and Social Studies.  It also includes an interest inventory, which helps students begin the process of planning their potential careers.  The test results were discussed with the students Monday, November 9th during their Language Class. Ask your child to discuss his/her results with you.  Visit the website, www.explorestudent.org to view sample problems.

Kim Biggerstaff and Anne Cunningham, of Hearts of Hope (formerly Stuller Place), presented valuable information to our 2nd, 5th, and 7th graders during the week of October 12. Ms. Biggerstaff presented the "Good Touch, Bad Touch" program to second grade and "Respecting Boundaries" to fifth grade students. Ms. Cunningham discussed "R.E.S.P.E.C.T." (Respect Equals: Self-Esteem, Prevention, Education, Communication, and Trust) with the seventh grade class. Thank you, parents, for returning permission forms and for attending the parent preview meeting on October12.

A NEW "TESTING INFORMATION" LINK HAS BEEN ADDED TO OUR SCHOOL'S WEBSITE! BE SURE TO CHECK IT OUT.
