Welcome to my class!!!

We will have an awesome year!  Our theme this year is Rock and Roll and celebrates our tenth anniversary!  Please check their "quality binders" every night and sign the planner every night also.  This binder will hold everything you will need to see to help your child be successful.  You may e-mail from this sight anytime--and I will respond asap!
JOURNAL WRITINGS:  I have given the students five journal writings this week. They are to complete them in their journals and turn them in this Friday.  This is a reading grade and can be an easy A if they complete the task.  There is no reason it can't be done at home if they run out of time at school.  Each journal writing must be now be five sentences long and in cursive.
SPELLING:  They will get their spelling words on Monday.  They are verbs and we will be studying them this week.
Their spelling test is on Friday.
READING: We will be reading Theme 7  which is on the ocean.  We will review to pages 206. We will learn to create images in our mind as we read. We will test on Friday.
LANGUAGE:  We will be discussing   linking verbs this week.  We will test on their knowledge of them on Thursday.
WRITER'S WORKSHOP: We will be finishing their expository writings early this week.  We will then begin our informational article writings on their explorers.
SOCIAL STUDIES:  Even though we have thankfully not had any hurricanes in the Gulf Coast, they are to keep their trackers-it is still a grade.  This week we will take a break from Social Studies and work on Science to completion.
DIFFERENTIATED READING INSTRUCTION:  I will be reading with your students daily in small groups.  This is fun as well educational as we have great nonfiction as well as fiction books we read together.
A.R. tests are still being taken daily.    Please advise your student to read at home. Good news!  We now have complete internet in our rooms and can take A.R. tests as needed!!!
MATH:  We will be studying adding and subtracting fractions this week.  We will explore mixed number fractions and how to put them in order using the lowest common denominator.  We will have a short test on these things on Friday.
SCIENCE:  We will continue working on Chapter 4, rocks and soil.  They will explore the Earth's crust.  We will do open book tests periodically to monitor understanding.

REMEMBER:  THE STUDENTS WILL NOT HAVE SCHOOL NEXT WEEK DUE TO THANKSGIVING BREAK.  WE WILL SEE THEM BACK ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH.

YOUR KIDS ARE THE GREATEST!!!
