September 2009 Greetings all! We are well into our year of learning! This month we continue our studies of Earth which includes not just the geology information, but about oceans as well. We'll also study cells this grading period as well. To augment our classroom studies, we'll be making a trip to Dixie Caverns and also the Geoscience Museum of Virginia at Virginia Tech later this fall. We'll continue our studies of Virginia, including products and industries as they relate to specific regions. Then we'll study why Virginians moved west in the early 1800s. Our reading continues with students diligently reading independently for the AR program, as well as our novel studies. Specific writing instruction in underway with students completing their work in the Writer's Notebooks. We are all to finish the first unit in the Everyday Math program, and will flow into Unit Two. Across the grade level, we'll be pretesting each unit to best determine students' learning needs. Have a great month! Sincerely, |
