Mr. Hixson's Literature Class:
The second nine weeks we are studying genre forms, graphic organizers, folklore (myths fables, folk tales, tall tales, and legends), elements of plot, expository writing (comparing and contrasting), tone, dialogue, and context clues. We are also examining symbolism and figurative language in the novel Tuck Everlasting. I have posted a copy of the scope and sequence and our time line for this nine-weeks on here along with a folklore study guide (click on 'My Files' to your left). In vocabulary, we are going to spend a few weeks looking at Greek and Latin word parts and how they influence our modern vocabulary. This week's list contains the Latin word part 'ben' which means 'good'. Here is the list of vocabulary words for November 16th through November 20th: benediction, benefactor, beneficial, beneficiary, benefit, benevolent, benign, bonafide, bonus, and bon voyage. Homework - assigned Monday, November 16th and due Tuesday, November 17th. - Students should brainstorm advantages and disadvantages of country living vs. city living. These notes will be used in a compare/contrast essay in class on Tuesday. Upcoming dates: 11/20 - Vocabulary Quiz - 'ben-' words Benchmark Exams: 1st and 2nd periods - December 16th 3rd and 4th periods - December 17th 5th period - December 18th |
