Mrs. Woodrum's Weekly Plans & Homework Welcome to my homework page! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have during the year. Homework is given almost every night Mon.-Thurs. Also, students should be reading their AR book regularly and testing on them. My email address is cwoodrum@mcsdga.net /Home # is 706-568-4650. If you are not getting weekly progress reports, please let me know. (March 15- March 19) READING- AR will count 2 grades this 9 wks. and students should have atleast 10 pts. ELA8LSV2, ELAR1-4,ELA8W1-4. We will have CRCT vocab. test #7 on Wed. Lit. Unit "Tales of the Strange and Mysterious". We will read and interpret the play and story "The Monkey's Paw" Skills- foreshadowing/analyze suspense/character analysis/predicting. GRAMMAR - We will finish Ch. 11 Tues./Review Wed./Test Thurs. We will begin Ch. 12 at the end of the week. We have so much to cover between now and the CRCT test. Please make sure you are doing your homework nightly. ELA8C1a-8C1g. HOMEWORK MON.- No School TUES.- Grammar Book p.256 Ex.10 and p.257 Review F -This is what we worked on in class today. Study Vocab.#7 WED.- No written hw. just study Ch. 11 THURS.- Due to MAP testing in both subjects I have decided to move the test to Mon. after the review. Homework- Complete the study guide I gave out in class. Due Mon. FRI./WEEKEND- Study Ch. 11, study guide, and homework given in this chapter. Finish the Ch. Review given in class on Fri. We will go over this and I will collect it in class on Mon. Read your AR book. Remember you need 10 pts. by the end of the 9weeks? Performance Standards that we will cover this year. Reading and Literature ELA8R1 The student demonstrates comprehension and shows evidence of a warranted and responsible explanation of a variety of literary and informational texts. ELA8R2 The student understands and acquires new vocabulary and uses it correctly in reading and writing. ELA8R3The student reads aloud, accurately (in the range of 95%), familiar material in a variety of genres, in a way that makes meaning clear to listeners. ELA8R4 The student acquires knowledge of Georgia authors and significant text created by them. ELARC1 The student reads a minimum of 25 grade-level appropriate books or book equivalents (approximately 1,000,000 words) per year from a variety of subject disciplines. The student reads both informational and fictional texts in a variety of genres and modes of discourse, including technical texts related to various subject areas. (AR Reading should be a daily activity) ELA8RC2 The student participates in discussions related to curricular learning in all subject areas. ELA8RC3 The student acquires new vocabulary in each content area and uses it correctly. ELAC4 The student establishes a context for information acquired by reading across subject areas. Writing - (The following skills are a regular part of curricular learning in all subject areas) ELA8W1 The student produces writing that establishes an appropriate organizational structure, sets a context and engages the reader, maintains a coherent focus throughout, and signals a satisfying closure. ELA8W2. The student demonstrates competence in a variety of genres. ELA8W3 The student uses research and technology to support writing. ELA8W4 The student consistently uses the writing process to develop, revise, and evaluate writing. Conventions - (These skills are covered in our Grammar book and practiced daily in oral and written formats) ELA8C1 The student demonstrates understanding and control of the rules of the English language, realizing that usage involves the appropriate application of conventions and grammar in both written and spoken formats. Listening, Speaking and Viewing - (The following skills are covered daily through class discussions, student presentations, group activites, research, and writing activites) ELA8LSV1 The student participates in student-to-teacher, student-to-student, and group verbal interactions. ELA8LSV2 The student listens to and views various forms of text and media in order to gather and share information, persuade others, and express and understand ideas. The student will select and critically analyze messages using rubrics as assessment tools.
