Course/Policies Overview:



 In all courses, emphasis will be placed on writing skills in the form of daily journal writing, creative writing, and frequent essays. Every quarter, you will also be required to submit a journal audit, which will reflect upon the past quarter. (Further instructions will follow.)



Basic supplies needed:



folder with pockets

3-subject notebook

pens/pencils

highlighter

Post-It notes



Classroom expectations:



Attentiveness

Excellent attendance

Punctuality

Respect for others

Cooperativeness

Work completed on time

Notebook and folder maintained





Grades are based upon the following percentages:



English 9 CP/ Contemporary American Literature

50%- tests, writing assignments, projects

20%- homework

30%- quizzes



Literacy I-

40% - tests, writing assignments, projects

20%- homework

30%- quizzes

10%- class participation and preparedness



 

Public Speaking

30%- homework

30%- quizzes

40%- presentations/papers/written tests (at least 2 per quarter)



Late work policy:

Ten points will be deducted per day for late projects and essays.

No more than 50% can be earned if a homework assignment is late.

Students are expected to make up missing work the day after returning to school.



Revisions:

Students are allowed to revise numerous times BEFORE submitting work for a grade. Students are expected to ask for help before assignments are due. Students may elect to revise a paper that has been graded, however, students are only allowed one revision per quarter.
