Welcome to our weekly newsletter! On this page I will keep you informed of what is going on in our classroom every week. We had a little trouble with the internet connection this week, but I will try to update it every Monday. It was wonderful seeing all of you on Open House. Thank you all for coming! Language Arts: This week we are reading Mrs. Frisby and the Crow and learning about fantasy. We are also studying verbs and linking, action, and helping verbs as well as verb phrases. We are working on comprehension strategies of prediction and visualizing. We are also continuing to read The Sign of the Beaver, and answering questions in our journal. In math we are studying addition properties, using a variable. using mental math to add and estimating sums. Our second math test was returned to the children today. In science we are learning the difference between plant and animal cells, and living and non living things. We will soon be classifying things. In Social Studies we have studied elevation maps, the climate of New York State, regions and will soon be studying resources and people of New York. Our first field trip is next Tuesday, Oct. 13. Children should bring lunches--no glass bottles, please! |
