Ask students to focus on key parts of a fiction summary and be ready to locate sentences from the story to tell the characters, setting, problem, solution attempts, and solution. (Use Reteach page 154 as basis for choosing sentences.) Review Academic Vocabulary term: narrative. T20: - Students will listen to story on CD and underline key parts of a summary with Wikki sticks.
- As a class, complete Reteach page 154 (8 sentences that summarize Lon Po Po). Students will illustrate one of the eight sentences to post in the hall.
- Post these same eight sentences on website http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/summarizelonpopo.
- Create class summary of Lon Po Po using Someone Wanted/But/So/Then strategy.
- Display leveled books (Who’s Afraid of the Wolf, Return of the Wolf, Peter and the Wolf). Encourage students to read and take AR tests on these.
