LANGAUGE LESSONS……………………………..Verbs, Week 1, Unit 4

9:15-9:25     Each English lesson begins with DLA (Daily Language Activity) folders.  The skills throughout the week include analogies, synonyms/antonyms, sentence editing, nouns/verbs/adjectives/, context clues.  A flipchart for each lesson is available.

 

Monday - Students will distinguish between main verbs and helping verbs that are form of have and be.  Text page 240-241, WB page 45.  *3LA4a2, DOK=1  Students will decorate booklet covers to tell about “Blessings Mix”.  As a class, create a brainstorming web for writing project.

 

Tuesday - Students will identify correct subject-verb agreement in past-tense sentences that include forms of the helping verb have.  Text page 242, 243, Discuss WB page 46.  *3LA4a2, DOK=1  Students will write/illustrate about “Blessings Mix” with topic sentence, supporting details, and conclusion sentence.

Tuesday - Read Turk and Runt by Lisa Wheeler.  Borrow "Elmo" projector to read story and play "I Spy" (see activity guide).    Review features of persuasive writing.  Students will write a persuasive paragraph on "A Turkey's Last Plea" (see activity page).  *3e (DOK 3).

 

Wednesday – Thanksgiving Feast preparations (decorate napkin holders)

 

Thursday - Students will practice Reader's Theater on "A Turkey Takes a Stand".  Discuss the turkey's opinions in the persuasive script.  *3e (DOK 3).
