Reading (8:05-9:15)– MCT2 Prep – “Oh the things you can find if you don’t stay behind!”

Monday

SET:  Review 30 inspiration quotes from Dr. Seuss – MCT2 confidence! http://twentytwowords.com/2012/03/20/30-inspirational-dr-seuss-quotes/

T20:  Students will complete ½ MCT2 Coach Form A Test.

CLOSURE:  Review MCT2 skills with flipchart, “Beat Your Last Score”.      

Tuesday

SET:  Review character traits poster words and have students identify syllables for 6 of these words, citing the syllabication rule from our poster.  *1b(DOK1)

T20:  Students will complete ½ MCT2 Coach Form A Test.

CLOSURE:  Review MCT2 skills with flipchart, “Beat Your Last Score”.

Wednesday

SET:  Choose two books to read to class.  Compare text structures used.

T20:  Students will complete study guide for Reading and Language #2.

CLOSURE:  Review vocabulary from our class toolbox.

Thursday

SET:  Read Shel Silverstein poems.  Discuss meaning of figurative language.

T20:  Students will complete study guide for Reading and Language #3.

  • End of Year Spelling Bee – winner will receive certificate on awards day.

Friday

SET:  Review difference in word families and vowel sounds.

T20:  Students will use voting clickers with MCT2 review flipchart.

Language (9:30-10:30)– MCT2 Prep

Monday

SET:  Sing “Subjects and Predicates” song to tune of “A Tisket, A Tasket”.  View Subject Predicate PowerPoint.

T20: 

  • Pass out 7 slips of paper with subjects and 7 slips for predicates.  Have students group themselves.  As a class create silly sentences with 2 slips, then 3 clips – identifying the sentence structure each time.
  • Make a list of silly sentences with compound predicates and have students illustrate on construction paper.
  • Review one of the questions from MCT2 practice tests on compound predicates.
  • Students will search for pronouns in books and graph results on pdf.
  • Students will complete a graphic listing pronouns using www.wordle.net.

CLOSURE:  Pass out exit slips to fill out.  Compound predicate = 2 actions and NO comma.

Tuesday

SET:  Have students recall what they learned about the differences in compound subjects and predicates.

T20:

  • Play “Hot Potato Sentences”.  Sit in circle.  Pass around 3 balloons to music (labeled sentence, subject, and predicate).  Put MCT2 question on the board; person holding the “sentence” balloon reads the sentence; person with “subject” balloon identifies subject, etc…
  • Students will fold paper like hotdog, turn tall, label 1 subject, 2 predicates.  Give a simple subject (The little dog) and have students write as many sentences as possible using that subject and 2 predicates.

CLOSURE:  Pass out exit slips to fill out.  Compound predicate = 2 actions and NO comma.

Wednesday

SET:  Ask, “What is the difference between a simple predicate and a compound predicate?”

T20:  Students will complete study guide on May Week 1 Countdown Skills.

CLOSURE:  Pass out exit slips to fill out.  Compound predicate = 2 actions and NO comma.

Thursday

SET:  Orally review “Countdown” skills.

T20:  May Week 1 Countdown Quiz, emphasis on compound predicates (#36, 47, 51, 58).

Friday

SET:  Review alphabetical order with Mother’s Day pdf.

T20: 

  • Students will justify answers after reading a Mother’s Day passage.
  • View Schoolhouse Rock video on grammar skills.

CLOSURE:  Allow students to read poems they’ve written to the class.

 

Science(10:30-11:00) – Year End Review

Monday

SET:  Review several fraction MCT2 questions on Promethean board (Set 1 - #5, 35, 51; Set 2 - #6. 37; Set 3 – #6, 10, 23).

T20:  Students will play “Fraction BUMP” in partner groups using Uni-fix cubes.

CLOSURE:  Ask, “What is the most important thing to remember about fractions?”

Tuesday

SET:  Show Set 1, #10 Math Practice test question on composing triangles; allow students to answer on scrap paper.

T20: 

CLOSURE:  Ask, “What is the most important thing to remember about nets and composing shapes?”

Wednesday

SET:  Demonstrate repeated subtractions with PowerPoint and then with M&M’s.  Show on board vertically 28-7, then 21-7.

T20: 

  • Students will complete division as repeated subtraction and numberline activity page.
  • Students will solve problems on notebook paper, see Last MCT2 Week flipchart.

CLOSURE:  Show non-examples (25-5-5-5) and ask for justification.

Thursday

SET:  Show combination flipchart; review strategies.

T20:  Give each student partnership 6 colors (10 of each color) – see Set 1, #12.  Ask who many combinations are possible.

CLOSURE:  Ask students, “What are some clue words with combination questions?”

Friday

SET:  Review skills with Mother’s Day multiplication and division story problems

T20:  View Schoolhouse Rock video on math skills.

CLOSURE:  Review math skills with www.educationcity.com.

 

Math(11:30-12:30) – Year End Math Review

Monday

SET:  Review needed skills (according to last class-work) on Promethean board.

T20:  Students will work in teams to solve 2 problems and present strategies to the class.  Students will then complete a teacher-made class-work page.

CLOSURE:  5-minute timed multiplication drill.

Tuesday

SET:  Review math vocabulary

T20:  Students will complete Form A MCT2 Practice Test, part One.  Students will partner up and check answers/strategies.

CLOSURE:  Ask, “What were the easiest problems/hardest problems?”

Wednesday

SET: Review math vocabulary

T20:  Students will complete Form A MCT2 Practice Test, part Two.  Students will partner up and check answers/strategies.

  • 5-minute timed multiplication drill.  FINAL FACTS TEST ON Thursday.

CLOSURE:  Ask, “What were the easiest problems/hardest problems?”

Thursday

SET:  Have students review through math book table of contents and glossary.

T20:   Using www.wordle.net, each student will add a math vocabulary word.  The class will discuss strategies to use.

  • Final Multiplication Facts Test

CLOSURE:  Allow students to sign the 100’s Club posters for multiplication mastery.

Friday

SET: Review math vocabulary

T20:  TSW work with partner to complete combination and permutations quiz.  Students will complete final 5-minute timed multiplication facts test.

CLOSURE:  Students will create a new combination problem for other students to solve.

 

Centers for the Week:

  1. Multiplication Center – pull a card (1-6) and write multiplication sentence, repeated addition, model (array), and the product.
  2. Multiplication Posters – students will create posters in groups using stickers to make arrays, as well as commutative property and repeated addition
