August 31-September 4

READING-  This week we are working on recognizing letters Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, and Oo.  We are moving quickly through the letters now, but will spend more time with each letter and sound at a later date.  We are still working on reading the words I and am.  Please listen to your child read the take home story "Am I?" tonight.  The students are so proud that they can take home little books to read!  Please continue practicing the ring cards in your child's zippered pouch.  Be sure to keep the cards in there so they won't get lost!  I will keep the cards every other Friday to add new words to the rings.

HOMEWORK- Beginning this week, I will send a homework packet on Mondays .  The packet will be due on Friday.  Today, the children were VERY excited about doing homework last night.

MATH- We will continue to sort objects by color, size, and shape.  You may find your children great helpers with "sorting" chores at home (sorting the laundry -whites, darks..., putting away the silverware- forks, spoons...).  We are recording what we learn in math in our Math Journals.  Each child also has a calendar folder to record the date, the number of days of school, the number of days in the month, the weather, the number of birthdays and teeth lost in the month!   Have your child tell you about it!

Science- AMSTI tree unit

As you can see, we are learning many things- and having lots of fun while we learn!

Have a great week!
