Welcome to Mrs. Perryman’s Class!
Week of February 8-12, 2010
**No School Thursday, Feb. 11, Friday, Feb. 12, and Monday Feb. 15, 2010**
MATH
Unit 5: “Geometric Applications”
The GPS Standards for Unit 5 are:
M7G2. Students will demonstrate understanding of transformations. a. Demonstrate understanding of translations, dilations, rotations, reflections, and relate symmetry to appropriate transformations. b. Given a figure in the coordinate plane, determine the coordinates resulting from a translation, dilation, rotation, or reflection. M7G3. Students will use the properties of similarity and apply these concepts to geometric figures. a. Understand the meaning of similarity, visually compare geometric figures for similarity, and describe similarities by listing corresponding parts. b. Understand the relationships among scale factors, length ratios, and area ratios between similar figures. Use scale factors, length ratios, and area ratios to determine side lengths and areas of similar geometric figures. c. Understand congruence of geometric figures as a special case of similarity: The figures have the same size and shape.
OBJECTIVES for MATH in Unit 5 are: *Students will create similar shapes by enlarging or reducing a geometric figure in a coordinate plane. *Students will describe similarities by listing corresponding parts. *Students will find missing side lengths or areas in similar figures. *Students will plot points in the coordinate plane. *Students will calculate the perimeter and area of fundamental geometric plane figures. *Students will use the concepts of ratio, proportion, and scale factor to demonstrate the relationships between similar plane figures.
******In Math this Week******
Students are working on the Unit 5 Project in class only. The Unit 5 Project will need to be completed by the end of class on Wednesday, February 10, 2010.
SOCIAL STUDIES SS7G5 The student will locate selected features in Africa, Southeastern, and Southwestern Asia. SS7G8 The student will describe the diverse cultures of the people who live in Africa, Southeastern, and Southwestern Asia. SS7CG4 The student will compare and contrast various forms of government in select countries. SS7E5 The student will analyze different economic systems. SS7E6 The student will explain how voluntary trade benefits buyers and sellers in select countries.
******In Social Studies this Week******
Students will be working on their chosen “Country” project in class. This will be due at the end of class on Wednesday, February 12, 2010. This will be an introductory project for Social Studies. ______________________________________________________ MATH HOMEWORK: Monday:
