 Sow Good Seed!

Welcome to Mrs. Compton's Third Grade!

Welcome parents and students!!  We are so excited to have Mrs. Anita Hallman as our new assistant in third grade. She is so Awesome! I am so glad to see the snow gone. We still have lots of work to be done in third grade.

We are finishing up our unit on money and will begin measurement this week. Students will be learning all about the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. I encourage parents and students to watch them as they start showing them this week on television. We are looking forward to EOG Parent Night coming up on February 15th in the Media Center at 6:00 pm. I encourage you to attend. This will be a very informative session that will give you some insight to what will be expected on the End Of Grade Exam.

For the next two weeks, students will be learning about measurement. We will first explore measuring lengths to the nearest inch, measuring lengths to the nearest 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch, and measuring length in feet and yards. Students will continue each week working in small groups to review money, temperature, multiplication tables and measurement.  Please help them to study every night for this. Students will be working at their own paces to learn multiplication tables, so it is vital that you help them. Lots of fun activities planned.

leaningowl.gifParents,

Thank you so much for all that you do. Please be sure to read this page and look at all the information that is written. We hope to see you on EOG Night. It will be a night that will be of great importance. The third grade team will explain what to expect in all areas of study.  I would continue to encourage you to work with your child at home and check their homework. Please make sure they are reading for 20 minutes each night. The students have to do Reader Responses on what they are currently reading. I will also be sending reading stories for the students to do each night. These stories will ask questions at the end of each story. It is very important that students learn how to gather facts from their reading. Each week you will be recieving information about the A.R. tests your child has taken. Students are also learning their multiplication tables. I have sent home  multiplication booklets with the multiplication tables in them. Students will be taking these quizzes on a daily basis until they master them. Please note that if your child is struggling in any academic area, we are doing all we can to get them extra help in the classroom.  I will continue to keep you updated and thank each one of you for all your help and support. It is my goal that we work together to make all the students successful.
