Language Arts Skills and Assignments for February 6-10 ****** On Thursday, I gave the students instructions for a Power Word project (poster). This assignment is required, and will count as a unit test grade in Language, Spelling, and Reading. The project will be due on February 21-this is a change, since the students will not attend school on February 17 because of staff development. February 20 will be a holiday if we have not used any bad weather days. Reading: Students will receive vocabulary words for "The Last Dragon" on Monday, Jan. 30. They should study vocabulary each day and read the story at home. Students will be tested on this story on Tuesday, February 10. We have started working on Figurative Language. Students will receive skill vocabulary words for this unit next week. Vocabulary words: "The Last Dragon" characters , crest, fierce, homage, scales, snaked, teeming, severed, alien, mahjongg, companions, scraggly. Language: We will begin working on adverbs this week. Students will have a test on test items we have covered with Daily Language Practice. They were given a study guide last week. Spelling Words: February 6-10: bottom, picture, other, attend, capture, common, danger, afraid, borrow, office, arrow, suppose, escape, whether, pillow, dinner, thirty, degree, allow, corner, method, concert, narrate, abrupt, challenge. February 13-16: (test on Thursday) sink, squirrel, question, twenty, alley, twice, chance, glance, thirty, afraid, blanket, crooked, honey, monkey, ready, cottage, since, other, corner, office, mistake, attack, lonely, beauty, strange, ridge, village, suppose, degree, whether. ( 30 words - no challenge words) February 21-24: redo, treatment, rebuild, discolor, careless, dislike, sickness, beautiful, unlucky, awful, reread, unsure, movement, peaceful, unpaid, distrust, kindness, useless, displease, powerful, unusual, rearrange, appointment, discontinue, resourceful. (Spelling words are in a page protector in the student's homework folder. Words should remain in the folder until we put in a new list at school. ) Homework Schedule **Every Day - Read AR book; study vocabulary words and spelling words. Write spelling words 3 times each in cursive. Language- Skills Practice. Reading -Skills and Comprehension Practice A homework packet with all assignments was given to the students on Friday.
