5/24/12- Today 6th hour took the final exam.  It was such a pleasure to have you all in class!  I'm excited for all of you who are continuing with 5-6 Honors next year and hope to see the rest of you in the halls or in my room just to say hi.  I hope you have a wonderful summer!  :)

5/1/12- Today I collected your baby pictures.  We discussed the baby picture projects, and I gave you the study guide for the final exam.  We finished the envelope sentences.  Homework- do the rough draft of your project

4/30/12- Today we reviewed the imparfait vs. the passé composé by doing two listening activities, three oral activities, and starting to work on the envelope sentences.  Homework- Workbook p. 214-215 and don't forget to bring your baby picture!!!

4/27/12- Today we reviewed TWADDLERO vs. completed actions.  We did three listening activities. We did one side of a worksheet together and you worked with a partner to do the other side.  We discussed the baby pictures that you need to bring in by Tuesday.  (Ages 2-5, clear picture of your face, you are doing something in the picture).  Make sure you do not show your picture to anyone!  There is no homework.  Bon week-end!  :)

2/7/12- Today we did a translation activity to review everything we've learned in this lesson, and we watched the video.  There is no written homework; but if you didn't do well with the translations, you should start studying for the quiz.

1/9/12- Today we reviewed for tomorrow's quiz by watching the video and doing the review packet together. The irregular verbs in the second section of the quiz will be in the present tense.   Remember to look through the book and workbook for the gender of the basic food items that we've been using.  I will NOT be able to tell you the gender of the items tomorrow.  You must know their gender in order to do the partitive correctly. Also, remember to make all the sentences in the last section in the passé composé.  The verb prendre means to take and can refer to either eating or drinking.  We would also use this verb to mean that you had something. (Ex.  J'ai pris du jus d'orange.  I had some orange juice.)  Homework- Study for the quiz!

1/6/12- Today we reviewed the partitive by doing 3 listening activities an oral activity, a partner activity, and a workbook activity.  There is no homework.  Bon week-end!  :)

12/1/11- Today we reviewed for tomorrow's test by doing the Tests de Contrôle on p. 140-141 in the text.  Remember that the test consists of 10 multiple choice listening questions, 12 multiple choice vocabulary questions, 8 questions in which you will have to conjugate the irregular verbs that we've studied in the present tense (voir, mettre, prendre, dormir, sortir, partir), 10 verbs to conjugate in the passé composé (both avoir and être verbs, as well as the ones with irregular past participles), 2 dialogues with 8 choices that you will have to make between the vocabulary items just like in section 5 in the Tests de Contrôle, and a short reading with 3 multiple choice questions.  The test is worth 130 points (65 X 2).  Homework- STUDY for the test!

11/2/11- Today we went over yesterday's quiz.  We presented a few of the animal projects.  We took notes on the passé composé avec avoir (p. 110-111).  Homework- workbook p. 57

11/1/11- Today we took the quiz on Leçon 5, then worked on the animal projects.  Homework- Fiinish the animal projects; they are due at the BEGINNING of class.

10/31/11- Today we did a lot of listening activities and the review packet for Leçon 5.  There are four sections on the quiz:  the usual listening section with 6 questions; 10 sentences in which you will have to fill in the blank with the appropriate INFINITIVE from the vocab list; 5 animals that you will have to write along with the un or une (remember:  the two feminine animals end with an e); four sentences to write about a future weekend in the city.  You must write ALL of these sentences in the near future (aller + the infinitive).  Homework- Study for the quiz.  Spelling counts!  Joyeux Halloween!  :)

10/28/11- Today we worked on our animal composé projects.  The projects are due on Wednesday.  There is no homework.  Bon week-end! :)

10/25/11- Today we finished reading Images du Monde Francophone p. 86-96.  We did the Le savez-vous p. 97 for points.  There is no homework.

10/24/11- Today we finished Jeopardy.  We started reading Images du Monde Francophone p. 86-97.  We will finish the reading tomorrow.  The material from this reading will constitute the culture portion of the final exam.  There is no homework.

10/21/11- Today we played Jeopardy.  There is no homework.  Bon week-end!  :)

10/20/11- Today I passed back your corrected answers and questions.  You should have prepared your cards for the game tomorrow.  We chose numbers for the order of the presentations, and had time to practice.  Homework- prepare for your Jeopardy game tomorrow

10/17/11- Today we went over the quiz.  We took notes again on inversion.  We started working on our Jeopardy projects.  There is no homework, but you should be reviewing the things were problematic for you on the quiz.

10/14/11- Today we took the quiz on Leçon 4.  We watched the video for Unité 1.  There is no homework, but remember that all makeup quizzes must be taken after school on Monday. Bon week-end!  :)

10/13/11- We reviewed for the lesson 4 quiz, which is  tomorrow, Friday.  Homework p. 30 was handed in for a grade.  To know:  aller, venir, future with aller + infinitive, recent past with venir + de + infinitive. Also, aller chercher, devenir, revenir, depuis  and all those good expressions with  etre avoir, and faire.
Friday is last day for this quarter's make-up work.  Monday is absolute deadline for make-up tests. Homework:  study for quiz.

  10/12/11- We handed in warmup logs and extra credit passes.  We learned to use venir + de + infinitive to say we just did something.  We learned how to say we have been doing something since a given time or for a n amount of time, using depuis.  We learned the verbs devenir and revenir.  Homework:  Workbook p. 30, activities 3 and 4.  Note:  Quiz lesson 4 is Friday. 

10/11/11-  Important note:  warmup logs and toast passes due tomorrow, Wednesday.  Make-ups by Friday.  We conjugaged the verb venir, to come, and used it in expressions like venir de Paris, to come from Paris. We did listening exercises and did an activity with allez and venir.  Homework:  Workbook p. 29 activity 2.  

10/10/11- IMPORTANT NOTE!  Warmup logs and toast passes will be collected Wednesday.   All make-up work for absences is due Friday.   Quizzes must be made up.   If you missed something, you got a zero.   Your grade can only improve if you take the test. .   Today we went over the quiz on lesson 3 and studied the verb aller to go and expression aller chercher.   Homework:  workbook p. 29 activity 1.

10/6/11  We reviewed for the lesson 3 quiz on Friday, covering faire, avoir, and inversion.   Homework:  study for the quiz. 

10/5/11-We reviewed the expression faire + school  subject, pastime, sport or hobby using du de la, de l'l and des.  We noted hat the negative form is duh! easy:  de or d ', for example, je ne fais pas de musique.   We studied questions using inversion, p. 60 in the text, where the verb comes first, attached by a hyphen to the subject pronoun.   Homework:  p. 26 workbook, activities 4 and 5.

10/04/11  We stamped the homework and went over it.  We conjugated and used expressions with the verb faire, p. 58 in the text.  We reviewed expressions with avoir.   Homework:  Workbook p. 25 activity 3.  Special note:  The Scottsdale public library web-site has a language instruction program called "mango" which provides good practice for listening comprehension and pronunciation.  Serious students:  try it out.  



10/03/11  We reviewed the verb avoir p. 56-7 and expressions with avoir.  We presented our poems.  Vocabulary for lesson 3 was handed out.   Homework:  Workbook p. 25, activity 2.

9/28/11- Today we went over yesterday's quiz.  We worked on the form poems.  Format is listed on yesterday's date.  There is no homework. Bon long week-end!  :)

9/27/11 - We took the lesson 2 quiz and played charades.  Tomorrow we will make a form poem.   The idea is that you take a noun (the subject of your poem), and then put two adjectives below it; three verbs in the infinitive which describe the noun's actions, two adjectives below that, and another (or the same) noun on the bottom.   

Here's an example:
                   Mes amies
        sympa                        colorés
   aimer        accepter                    admirer
    intelligentes                branchées
                  mes amies

The poem is also illustrated appropriately.  Think about it for tomorrow!


     9/26/11-We explained the upcoming quiz and reviewed adjective endings.   Classwork:  missing adjectives worksheet handed in for a grade.  We also played Jeopardy!  Homework:  study for lesson 2 quiz, tomorrow Sept. 27.

9/16/11- Today we took the quiz on Leçon 1. We talked about the major errors on the presentations and played charades. There is no homework.  Bon week-end!  :)

9/15/11- Today we finished our presentations and talked about what is on tomorrow's quiz.  There will be a listening section with 8 multiple choice questions.  There will be three writing sections.  In the first, you will be given a city and a person's name and will have to state that person's nationality.  Ex.  Madrid      Paloma est ___________.  You would write espagnole.  There are five.  In the second, you will see a picture of a profession and will have to write it in French.  Ex.  You see a picture of someone teaching.  Mme Smith est __________.  You would write professeur.  There are five.  In the last section, the Expression Personnelle, you will be asked to talk about yourself in five sentences.  Ex.  You will see Describe where you were born.  You would write Je suis né(e) à Phoenix.  Homework- Study for the quiz!

9/14/11- Today we presented our dating service "videos".  There is no homework, except for those who did not present today.  They should practice.  :)

9/8/11.  We went over the quiz and discussed how those who did not do well should proceed:  analyze your strengths/weaknesses and come up with a plan to work on the weak points.   Mme Trueblood and Mr. Gallup are available to help.   We went over vocabulary on the family and professions p. 34-37 and handed out the vocabulary list.  Homework:  p. 14 workbook, B and C only.

9/7/11-  We took the quiz on rappel 3.  No homework.

9/6/11- Today we reviewed for tomorrow's quiz.  We did two review sheets.  The quiz consists of 5 parts.  In the first, you must match grammatical terms; in the second, you must choose the most logical verb to complete the sentence; in the third, you must choose the most logical verb to complete each sentence and conjugate it correctly; in the fourth, you must write questions based on the answers you are given; and in the last section, you will have to translate sentences with stress pronouns or translate commands to French.  Homework:  study for the quiz

8/25/11- Today we took notes on  subject pronouns and conjugating regular -er verbs.
We did some oral activities.  We mentioned the vocabulary at the top of p. 20 (using an infinitive after another conjugated verb).  Homework- workbook p. 5 (Act. 8)

8/24/11- Today we went over and presented the postcards.  You worked on the review pages for Rappel B.  Homework- Finish the review packet

8/23/11- Today we wrote postcards as a replacement for the quiz on Rappel B.  There is no homework.

8/22/11- Today we reviewed all kinds of adjectives (possessives, demonstratives, interrogatives, and colors).  Check p. R7 in the back of the text.  We did several oral activities.  Homework- workbook p. 4 (Act. 6).  Remember tomorrow we will be writing postcards in class that will serve as the quiz for this section.  You will be able to use all of the Rappel pages in the back of the book for reference.

8/19/11- Today we reviewed the homework and reviewed yesterday's vocabulary and the contractions.  We reviewed the prepositions (p. 5 text).  We did some oral activities.  We played the "pig" game.  There is no homework.  Bon week-end!  :)

8/18/11- Today we went over yesterday's quiz and homework.  We reviewed the object and clothing vocabulary.  We did some oral activities.  We took notes on contractions (p.  R6 in the back of the text).  Homework- workbook p. 4 (Act. C)  (R4 has all of the vocab that you need to do this activity)

8/17/11- Today we went over the review sheet and took the quiz on Rappel A.  We took notes on definite and indefinite articles and reviewed common objects and clothing (R4 & R5 in the back of the text).  Homework- workbook p. 3

8/16/11- Today we reviewed dates, time and weather for tomorrow's quiz.  The quiz consists of three sections.  In the first section, you will have to categorize words as either days, months, seasons or numbers (chiffres).  There are 12.  In the second section, you will have to put four birthdays in order from the youngest person to the oldest person.  There are four.  In the last section, you will be given a sentence in French and will have to choose a logical response to the statement from 3 choices (all of them are either date, weather, season or time related. There are 6.  There will be one extra credit question about the opening day green packet on my classroom procedures.  Homework- Study for the quiz

8/15/11- Today we reviewed the Friday's vocabulary with some oral questions.  We did the mini-tests on p. 1 & 2 in the workbook.  We reviewed numbers, dates, time and weather.  You received your study guide for Wednesday's quiz.  We did several oral activities.  Homework-
