 Monday In class:  We will be discussing the main characters presented in the books of 1 & 2 Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles.

 Tuesday In class:  We are starting a project that will carry us through the retreat next week.  Tables will design an O.T. board game that will carry the players from Eden through the return of Israel from captivity!  Tentative due date:  Wednesday, October 14th.

Homework:  This may require some work at home (gathering materials for 3-D gameboard, etc.)

Week of Sepember 14
 Monday In class:  We will continue our study of the O.T. books.  This week we will focus on the books of history, identifying which well known stories are found in each one.  Today - Genesis & Exodus

Homework:  Discuss with parents the O.T. significance of feasts and offerings (theme of Leviticus)
 Tuesday In class:  We started talking about the 'thread of redemption' found in the O.T. books of history. Continue discussion of O.T. themes - Leviticus

 Monday No school - Labor Day! 
 Tuesday We started a unit entitled, "Run Through the Old Testament."   The theme of the Bible was discussed in class today.  O.T. pointing toward the promise of the Messiah and the N.T. proclaiming His arrival and establishment of the kingdom of God.  We did a little math (39 = 17 + 5 + 17).  

Homework:  see if your parents can say the books of the O.T.  Practice! 
  
 Wednesday  We practiced saying the O.T. books in order, dividing history books from prophetic books.  Talked about how the history of the Bible

Homework:  Tell your parents about the writing of the Old Testament.  Practice saying them in order!   
 Thursday  In Class:  We talked about the Dead Sea scrolls; what O.T. scribes used instead of paper; and continued to practice saying the books of the O.T. in order and by category (history, poetry, prophetic)

Homework:  Tell your parent about the copy of Isaiah found in the cave - what it was written on, how long it was and how long it had been hidden. 

Week of 8/31/09
 MondayWe discussed how to listen to God through reading the Word. Every conversation involves questions.  We read Psalm 1 and worked at tables to write questions about the text
 Tuesday We discussed the importance of silence & solitude in our quiet time.  Biblical examples.  Discussed quote by George Mueller:  "The most important part of my prayers are the 15 minutes AFTER I say Amen."  
 Wednesday We discussed the idea of stewardship & service.  Parable of the talents (Matthew 16).  Quote by Robert McCheyne - It is not so much great talents that God blesses as great likeness to Jesus - a holy minister is an awful instrument in the hand of God."

 Thursday We will talk about evangelism and the Gospel message.  Quiz tomorrow!
