SPELLING: Lesson 13: "Stressed Syllables" Students will complete lesson activities in class. They are also responsible for completing one assignment each night (in cursive) in their spelling notebook to be checked the following day. Only Spelling has to be done in cursive ! ! ! SPELLING WORDS THIS WEEK ARE: service, alert, modern, concert, eastern, furnace, disturb, merchant, concern, burrow, perhaps, lantern, surprise, purchase, nervous, whirlwind, capture, thirsty, survive, persuade.
LANGUAGE: We will be working on our Biography Day presentations this week. Everyday we also do a DOL Lesson, which focuses on a variety of language skills, including capitalization, punctuation, correct verb usage, etc. Tests are given on Friday on the skills covered each week. READING: We will read "The Life and Times of the Ant" an Informational Nonfiction story out of our reading text. Skills this week will focus on Analyzing Text Structure - Description, Word Parts/Greek Roots, Character and Morals. There will be NO Vocabulary or Comprehension Test this week (due to Biography Day presentations) ! ! ! MATH: We will begin Chapter 5, focusing on Multiplying by Multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000, Estimating Products, Mental Math, and Using Arrays to Multiply. Every day we will also complete "ADD" and "Every Day Counts" skills, as well as completing a "Number of the Day" page once or twice a week, which all focus on reviewing a variety of math skills and concepts as daily reinforcement. It is important that each child has a strong understanding of "place value" and "number sense", so please help reinforce these skills at home, as well as making sure that your child studies their multiplication facts nightly. Students will be tested on their multiplications facts each week! STUDY NIGHTLY ! ! SCIENCE: We will continue our study of Animal Growth and Adaptations. SOCIAL STUDIES: We will begin our study on Government, Chapter 2 - Lesson 2, focusing on the 3 levels of Government.
