Breakdown of Reading Grade: 65% -FCAT weekly assessments and on-level comprehension tests (given on Friday) 15%- Weekly Vocabulary tests and bi-weekly literacy center grade that students put in their "Center Folder" that stays in school 10%- Weekly spelling tests (same words as voc for 4-2) 10%- HW grade and quarterly projects (Daily assignments are worth 20 points each: 4th grade sentences, comprehension packets, spelling practice, voc cards, and 1 hour Reading log *assignments are subject to change weekly) Homework for every student is to read for a minimum of 20- 30 minutes daily (or 1- 2 hours/week). Students will write in their home log: the title of the book, the number of pages read, and the amount of time read. A parent/guardian needs to sign your child's log once per week, verifying your son or daughter is reading. I will be checking planners every week on Friday (or Thursday if school is out on Friday). Vocabulary and/or spelling words listed in the planner should also be reviewed as needed. AR MINIMUM POINT REQUIREMENTS- Students need to earn 3-5 AR points a week by reading at least one chapter book or 5 half point books on their level read during centers, AR , and independently at home!!!! Students are required to read within their AR range, which is determined by taking the STAR test. Only books within their reading range or above will be counted towards their requirement. If your child earned a 70% or lower on a comprehension test, they have a chance to earn back half credit for each question they got incorrect. Students must follow the following directions in order to receive the credit: 1. All questions (that were wrong) must be written out on a separate sheet of paper. They must CUCC the questions. (Circle question word, underline key words in question, count directions, check answer in story) 2. Students must explain on that separate sheet of paper why they chose a particular answer using the story at least 2-3 sentences 3. Parents must sign the separate sheet of paper!
