SPELLING:    Lesson 12: "Words with /ar/ and /ir/ sounds"   Students will complete lesson activities in class.  They are also responsible for completing one assignment each night (in cursive) in their spelling notebook to be checked the following day.  Test will be on Thursday.  Only Spelling has to be done in cursive ! ! !

LANGUAGE:   Students will write a persuasive essay this week about staying drug free.   Everyday we will also do a DOL Lesson, which focuses on a variety of language skills, including capitalization, punctuation, correct verb usage, etc.  Tests are given on Friday on the skills covered each week.

 

READING:   We will read "Dear Mr Winston" a humerous fiction story out of our reading text.  Skills this week will focus on Making Inferences, Word Parts and Base Words.  The Vocabulary and Comprehension Test will be on Friday.  Vocabulary words are listed below.

Apologize – to say one is sorry, to make an apology

Genuine – real or authentic

Cardboard – a heavy, stiff paper used to make boxes and posters

Ambulance – a special vehicle that carries sick or injured people

                        to a hospital

Weekdays – the days of the week except Saturday and Sunday

Harmless – causing no injury

Slithered – slid or glided like a snake

 

MATH:   We will wrap up Chapter 3 in our Math book, focusing on Multiplication and Division, Multiple Step Problems, Writing and Evaluating Expressions, Finding a Rule, and Solving Multiplication and Division Equations with a Chapter Test on Wednesday.  Every day we will also complete "ADD" and "Every Day Counts" skills, as well as completing a "Number of the Day" page once or twice a week, which all focus on reviewing a variety of math skills and concepts as daily reinforcement.  It is important that each child has a strong understanding of "place value" and "number sense", so please help reinforce these skills at home, as well as making sure that your child studies their multiplication facts nightly.  Students will be tested on their multiplications facts each week!  STUDY NIGHTLY ! !

 

SCIENCE:   We will begin our next lesson on Animal Growth and Adaptations, focusing on the basic needs of animals and the metamorphosis of frogs.  There will be a quiz on Friday on the Basic Needs of Animals.  A new study quide for Chapter 2 has been given out and students need to begin studying it nightly.  Students are also to complete Science Quest #3, which is due on Thursday.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES:   Begin reviewing the new study cards for Lesson 3 vocabulary.  Test on Thursday.
