HOMEWORK

* Please check to make sure that your child is completing the homework assignments entirely and correctly.  On certain nights your child will be assigned a decodable book to read and practice.

* Please encourage your child to read the decodable books at least three times EVERY NIGHT! Any additional home reading should be encouraged as well. Reading every night will improve oral reading skills and strengthen comprehension.

* THERE ARE AT LEAST 3 WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS EVERY DAY! It is also important for you to sign each homework page/assignment individually every night. Your signature indicates that you have checked over the work with them and reviewed all the answers. If the assignment appears to be difficult for your child, please write us a note and we will review the homework with your child the following day. However, please review the homework first, then sign. We truly appreciate those parents who are committed to doing this.

* We understand catching up with the missed homework assignments can be overwhelming for your child. If you know your child will be absent or leaving school early in advance, please write us a note so that we can prepare the homework for the day(s) they are missing.

* PARENTS: The homework should be completed by your child in about 40-45 minutes. Please set aside this time for your child to complete the homework in a quiet area of the home. It would be helpful to encourage your child to do their homework at the same time and same place every night. This allows them to achieve time on task and focus on what they need to get done. If your child is taking longer than 40-45 minutes, please let us know and we will offer them extra help in class.

RESPONSIBILITY FOLDER

* Please initial both the Behavior Chart and the Homework Chart in your child's Responsibility Folder.

BEHAVIOR CHART

·        “I had an outstanding day” means that they demonstrated outstanding behavior and great listening skills.

·        “I tried to make good choices” means that a warning and reminder was given to them about their behavior.  They tried to regain focus and to improve during the day.

·        “I need to work harder tomorrow” means that they did not behave as we expected them to.  They were spoken to about their behavior more than twice throughout the day and didn’t try their best to improve.  They received an “X” on the incentive chart on their desk, which can lower their chances to participate in the Reward Party at the end of the month.

HOMEWORK CHART

* The Homework Chart will indicate if your child's assignments were:

- Complete

- No parent signature

- Incomplete/Missing Assignment(s)

TESTS

* Your child will be taking a variety of tests. Once graded, your child will be sent home with a test packet for you to sign.  It is important for us to know that you are aware of the grades your child receives on a weekly assessments.  Please sign and return the packet to school with your child.

* The students understand that they have two days to sign this packet. If we don't receive the packet within the two days, we will most likely contact you in order to find out if you have received the packet from your child. If for any reason the test packet is lost, please send a note with your child to inform us and we will be glad to send you their grades from those tests. Thank you for your promptness with returning these test packets.

* Thank you to those who attended the Parent Council Meeting in January.  We appreciate your usual cooperation!

* Report Cards for Cycle 3 will be distributed during the week of Parent/Teacher ConferencesWhen the sign up book is available in the office, please make an appointment to meet with your child's teacher to discuss their academic and behavioral progress.  Please note that your child will not receive their report card unless this meeting takes place.  We will see you then!

* Please make every effort to bring your child to Saturday Class 8:15 - 11:30 a.m.  It is important for child to attend these classes to learn and apply test-taking strategies.  This will help prepare your child to take the NJ ASK in May 2012

* Please make sure your child arrives to school early and is picked up on time.  They must arrive before morning announcements, which begins at 8:30 a.m. The earlier your child is brought to school, the better prepared they are in the morning with getting themselves unpacked.  Dismissal will be at 3:30 p.m. every day. Children who will be staying for the aftercare program need to be picked up between 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  We appreciate your promptness with this.

* Your child can wear the gym uniform throughout the month of August.  Beginning September 6th, your child is required to wear the full RTA uniform.  If any part of their uniform is missing or worn incorrectly, a letter will be sent home.  Please refer to the parent handbook to dress your child properly.

* If you signed up for the aftercare program, your child will be attending the following clubs each week:

Monday - Math Remediation or Homework Club

Tuesday - Reading Remediation or Phys. Ed. Club

Wednesday - Math Remediation or Computer Club

Thursday - Reading Remediation or Homework Club

Friday - Movie Club or Little Voices

* Please note that those students who attend the reading and math remediation clubs will be based on teacher recommendation. If you have any concerns with your child's academic progress in either reading or math, please notify us as soon as possible.

* Please make sure your child wears their gym uniform under their school uniform on the days we have physical education. Also, they must bring their sneakers in order to participate. Please do not allow them to wear the sneakers on these days.  We have physical education every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
