Thursday, February 9th

Finally, some snow. The kiddos were really happy to see this--and so was I. Now maybe it will be a little warmer!

The children have the Valentine's Day party form in their folders. Please ask to see it. If it's not in the folder, I have put one on the downloads at this website for you to click on and print.

Just so you know: if your child brought in a Tech Club form, there are only 25 computers available and the club is open to all elementary classes, so your child may not be granted a seat in the club. You will receive a notice if your child is in the club.

The children have their learning logs and a math worksheet for homework.

Tomorrow we will have Music for our special class.

Also, I will be in a workshop on Monday so I probably won't submit a newsletter on Monday afternoon. Monday is a regular school day so the children will have their regular spelling test with the substitute and their alphabetization strip for homework.

Best regards,

Mrs. D

Old News:

Wednesday, February 8

The students have their learning logs in their folders and their spelling flashcards. We went through each card today, marking the correct spelling and the vowel patterns. I tried to check all 23 students (368 flashcards) but I may have missed a few. Please double-check your child to be sure they have the flashcards marked correctly, if you would. Don't let your child forget to do the www.spellingcity.com assignments, if you would.

The children also have a two-sided math worksheet regarding our lesson of greater than and less than (the printer went on the fritz so some children have two sheets rather than a two-sided sheet). This is also due tomorrow.

Tomorrow we have P.E. If your child doesn't have a zipper in the winter coat (it's broken), I think the alterations place at the PX will replace the zipper for under $10. Also, I did see mittens/gloves and hats at the Freecycle Center if your child doesn't have these items. Tomorrow will be a little warmer with snow, so winter is still in full-force!

Tuesday, February 7

Sorry I didn't post anything for yesterday. Mondays are often faculty meeting days, and I had appointments backed up until after 6pm so I didn't post a newsletter.

The children have their new spelling flashcards to cut out and label today. They also have their learning logs in their folders. I've posted the flashcards on this webpage in the "downloads" section. In case your child needs a little "help" with the conjugations and contractions, the actual words are posted in the www.spellingcity.com website along with the two new spelling assignments.

Tomorrow our special class is Host Nation.

Wednesday, February 1

The children have their flashcards and learning logs in their folders. Please remind your child not to wait until the last minute to get their www.spellingcity.com assignments done (Sunday can be a very crazy day!). Also, if your child is having difficulties with getting the correct spelling word on the back of the flashcard, please remind them that the words are correctly spelled at www.spellingcity.com so they can just copy them.

Tomorrow our special class is Music.

Also, the dental visit (yes, I was a week off last week, sorry) has been postponed until next week.

Tuesday, January 31

Thank you for making sure your child had a hat and gloves today--and socks! We had a fire drill at 9:00 and everyone was covered well.

The children have their learning logs and new spelling flash cards in their folders. We went over the flash cards today in class, but if your child missed anything, they'll get the correct spelling of the words when they go to www.spellingcity.com. There are also two new spelling assignments at that website that are due before next Tuesday.

Remember that we don't have school on Friday due to parent/teacher conferences. Report cards come home with the children tomorrow. If you are concerned with your child's progress once you see the report card, please let me know and we can schedule a conference on Friday. I have only scheduled appointments with parents that I am currently monitoring the progress of their child, and with those parents whom I have not yet met. But if you've recently returned from an extended absence, please let me know and we should schedule a sit-down on Friday.

Also, I have posted a class list on the downloads for your child to use when making out the Valentines. And if you could please keep it in mind, we're having a party. Please contemplate donating sandwiches, chips, veggies, or a sweet treat (no cupcakes, please) for the party. I'll send out a sign-up notice early next week.

Our special class tomorrow is P.E.

Monday, January 30

Whew! It's going to get cold this week. Please check your child before they head out the door to be sure they have gloves, a hat, and a warm jacket (more than just a hoodie). And as always, please make sure your kiddo put socks on before their shoes!

And remember: there is no school on Friday of this week.

The children have their learning logs in their folders. They also have a colored paper strip for gluing their spelling flash cards in alphabetical order.

Tomorrow our special class is Host Nation.

Wednesday, January 25

Wow! It was sure different only having sixteen children today. Do be on the watch for strep throat as its going around.

The children have only a little homework today. They have their learning logs with that work to complete--especially the www.spellingcity.com page on which they have two assignments. They have a spelling/penmanship worksheet in their folder. And that's it for today.

Tomorrow is our dental presentation.

And our special class is P.E. again.

Tuesday, January 24

The children have their learning logs in the folders along with a math page to complete and a spelling paper to complete. As always, when they get new spelling words, they have work to do on their flashcards. Today, that work is they must write the correct form of the word on the back of the flashcards that ask for the present tense or past tense of a root word. The correct spelling of the words can be found on www.spellingcity.com (there are also 2 assignments on the website that must be completed by Monday).

We have our dental screening on Thursday at 12:20.

Our special class tomorrow is Music.

Monday, January 23

Sorry for this late notice. I just got in from two meetings.

The children have their learning logs in their folders. They also have the paper for the alphabetization of their words. Some children are missing their numbers chart so they may have that in their folder to complete, as well. That's it for today.

A quick word about the uniform surveys: the due date has been extended to January 30th. It would be really helpful if you could respond to this survey. It will help the committee of parents, students, and teachers make meaningful decisions for the next school year.

Our special classes for tomorrow are Library (get those books in the bag tonight if you can, to help you avoid that morning scramble Smile) and P.E.

Wednesday, January 18

The children have their learning logs in their folders. They also have new spelling words and a spelling paper. We're still working on penmanship but in a smaller size now. So the children have a penmanship paper (using last week's spelling words).

Tomorrow our special class is P.E.

Tuesday, January 17

I hope you have been watching the emails that come from the school office. It just occured to me last week that some of you do not know that the full lunch price has gone up to $2.40. Please keep this in mind.

The children have their learning logs (the same one as last week) in their folders for today's work) along with their spelling strip (it's purple this time) so they can glue their flash cards on the paper as homework. Be sure, if you would, that the spelling word side of the flashcard is showing, not "present tense of..." or "past tense of..." since the spelling word is on the other side. Could you also quiz them on the following number:

104,230

Tomorrow's special class is Music.

PS The answer is one hundred four thousand, two hundred thirty

Wednesday, January 10

The children have their learning logs and a spelling worksheet. If they haven't done the assignment in www.spellingcity.com yet, please direct them to it.

We worked really hard on reading big numbers today. If you would, to keep the lesson fresh in their memories, could you ask your child to read the following number to you (remind them not to say "and" when they read a number):

3,258,701

I'll put the answer under my name when I sign off below.

Tomorrow we have Host Nation. And of course, there is no school on Friday.

Three million, two hundred fifty eight thousand, seven hundred one is the number answer.
