Week of 6/8 - 6/12

Dear Parents and Students,

Thanks for stopping by to check out what we're doing during our final full week in 5th grade!  It has gone by so fast! Reminders:  Family Life instruction will continue through June 9th. There will be a Renaissance Assembly at 9:30 AM on 6/12. Also, we will have our end of the year class party on 6/10. Finally, the 5th grade Memories ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 16th at 9:30 AM

Homework:  Your fifth grader will have math, reading, and spelling homework each week night.  Please check your child's planner each night to see what homework needs to be done.  The planner is also used as a communication between parents and teachers.  If an assignment is not turned in on time, a "Missing Homework" stamp will be stamped in the planner and the homework needs to be completed and turned in.

Math:  The students will take the Unit 6 assessment on probability and number properties on Monday and Tuesday.  For the remainder of the week, students will be using Hands On Equations materials to solve algebraic problems.  They will also be using different strategies of checking their work for accuracy.

Language Arts:  This week we will compare different tall tales and analyze the dialogue in tall tales.  After editing, revising, peer conferencing, and teacher conferencing, students will need to turn in the final draft of their memoirs by Wednesday, 6/10.

Spelling:  The students will be studying homophones this week and there will be a quiz on Friday.  The students will need to use each homophone correctly in a sentence.

Science:  The students will begin to compare plant and animal cells and use microscopes to investigate cells on prepared slides.  We will also discuss heredity and dominant and recessive traits.

Please let me know if you have any questions!  It's going to be a great week!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jenkins
