Week of February 8

SNOW DAYS are great days for READING!  Catch up on your independent reading and take an AR test.

 

8th grade:  Please send your powerpoint slides to Nick or Kylie for formatting so when we come back to school we can view them.

 

English 8

Turn in your assignment from Friday, January 29:  Write a "Tall Tall" using a participle phrase, prepositional phrase, subordinate clause, and a compound sentence.  Remember to use commas in the right places!  Consult your English textbook if you need additional help.

 

In-class Writing Assignment from Scope - focus on "SHOW ME" sentences.  Please turn in your typed copy by the end of this week.  This is to be done in school.  Please sign in for computer time.

Comma Rules - pp. 582 - 591 (Textbook); pp. 5-18 (Skillsbook)

Powerpoint Presentation on Comma Rules - Continue earning Oral Communication points.

Reading 8       GREEK MYTHOLOGY UNIT

Great job on your thrones!

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION:  Create 2 or 3 slides of your asssigned god/goddess.  You have been given class time to do this.  Most of you should be almost done.  Email your slides to me:  rpenderville@gmail.com and to the student in your class (Nick or Kylie) who will be assisting with this project.

 

Allusion Contest:  Find any Greek Mythology connections and bring them to class for one bonus point.  Maximum number of points is 10.  This contest will last throughout the entire mythology unit.

 

Reading 7    Novel Study:  NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

Reminder:  Oral book report preparation this week.  Bring your book selection to class!  We will prepare the reports in class, and then I will take volunteers first.

We have three teams of students going to the 2010 English Festival at Duquesne University.  The date of the festival is Thursday, May 13, 2010.  If any parent would like to volunteer as a driver, please let me know.
