I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. And for parents who volunteered at the bazaar, your child will have a dress down day this Friday, November 20.
We had a visitor today. Abby brought in a tree frog she had caught over the weekend. It didn't move much until she was ready to take him home. In moving it from one cage to another he jumped out! Then the stampede of children eager to catch him ensued and you could hear screams up and down the second floor. I hope he survives the night and we didn't give it a heart attack!
Have a good night,

No School tomorrow, Friday November 13.
Third grade had a grand time shopping for friends and relatives today so NO PEEKING!
I think someone went home yesterday with the wrong sweatshirt. Please check your child's sweatshirt and return it on Monday.
And I'm sure you have heard about the crayfish. They didn't make it. We even had a beautiful fish tank given to us for them. But it wasn't to be. So we turned it into a science lesson! They had a few ideas of what happened, lack of oxygen in the water (we hadn't set up the pump yet) and not used to their environment. So they are listening to me! So if we don't get anymore crayfish we will try fish after the holidays.
Don't forget the Christmas Bazaar is this weekend.
Have a great weekend,

We read about crayfish in our classroom today because we have six! We actually got to look their information up in our class encyclopedias. I had to skip over the delicious recipes I found. These children get very defensive about the class pets. A cricket was found in the hallway and it went in with snakes. Even that caused some moaning. I did explain to the class that if behavior (lots of talking) did not improve that the pets would have to go. I would hate for that to happen because I am learning as much as the students.
I gave a math quiz today to prepare for the next chapter test and was dismayed at some grades. The test will be on Tuesday so please go over practice tests with your children. We will be reviewing also in class until then.

Thank you to our homeroom moms for a wonderful Halloween party! The children enjoyed decorating a pumpkin, playing a donut game, and eating delicious snacks. Dylan also brought in a craft that was fun to do, Angelic brought in pumpkin seeds, and Hunter C. lollipops. I'm hoping they all eat a good dinner with a lot of vegetables!
News on the Animal Kingdom. The snakes are fun to watch and seem to be getting bigger. They are now eating meal worms which are a lot smaller than the night crawlers. Not too much going on yet with the tadpole but we're being patient. And the ladybugs went home today and the hermit crabs will be going to their vacation condo (my house).
Have a happy and safe Halloween,

Parents, please speak to your children regarding appropraite behavior in the classroom, at recess, and in church. Most children in class show exemplary behavior wherever they are and awarded with treats, prizes, extra stickers, and allowed to sit where they want in the lunchroom. Consequences for poor and/or inappropriate behavior will be letters sent home, recess taken away, not going on field trips or participating in classroom parties. I'm hoping it is just the excitement of Halloween and good behavior will be shown during All Souls Day Mass on Monday and from now on.

I apologize for lack of schoolnotes yesterday. I had a meeting in town and simply forgot.
Well, today we actually got on the floor and surrounded ourselves with hermit crabs and ladybugs. The hermit crabs hadn't been out since Patrick's episode and I thought since Mrs. Kirkwood wasn't in today we'd let them loose. They are quick! The ladybugs are fun to watch and sometimes they fly out but I'm sure Mrs. Kirkwood wouldn't have a problem with them. We also got to talk about decomposers early in Science since one of our snakes died. We put him in our classroom plant because we learned that dead plants and animals put nutrients back into the soil. This class loves science!
Also, please don't forget to have your children check out web sites, especially Math, for additional practice. Another chapter test is coming up as well as another science test.
Heads up! The flu is here. Teachers as well as students are sick. Third grade knows to keep their hands clean and we wipe desks down and I now bring the hand sanitizer to the lunchroom to clean hands before they eat. We're trying to stay healthy!

I was very pleased with the Reading and Spelling test scores. As soon as I enter them into my gradebook I'll update PowerSchool, probably Monday. So Friday folders will go home next Friday.
Enjoy your weekend. It can only get better!

Parents, I hope you have been able to find me on new schoolnotes. I am sorry for the confusion.
Well, third grade made it through the first day. They did a wonderful job. It was noisy at times but they were so happy to see their friends again. The morning just flew by! And the weather was just perfect.
Our Specials schedule remains the same as last year:
Tues-Library, Wed-Phys.Ed., Thurs-Art/Computer, Fri-Music
This Wednesday, Sept. 3, begins the Specials schedule.
The children can bring a water bottle and snack again for Tuesday.
Full day begins Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Monday-no school.
Important- Aftercare does not begin until Tuesday, 9/8.
Also, some children do not have all the pratice books. Not to worry. They will be in this week. In fact, some were just delivered. Please do not worry about getting all books covered overnight. As long as they are done by next week. And please check your child's Daily Folder for important papers.
Thank you and have a great evening!

To the parents, guardians, and family of the new fourth grade, I just want to say thank you for all your support throughout the school year. You all made me feel welcome from day 1 and it was appreciated. I loved your children and enjoyed teaching them. I may have had thirty-two students in number but they made it easy with their enthusiasm to learn new things. And I learned new things, especially about incubators, eggs, and chickens. Thank you Mr. Davis for that. It was fun! The hermit crabs were fun, too. The new third graders have already questioned me if they, too, were going to do the eggs and hermit crabs. That's going to be a challenge!
And thanks to the home room parents, the parties always went smoothly. Thanks for all the cards and gifts and kind words. I will miss your children but they will be close by. Mrs. Boyle is very lucky to have them next year.
Everyone stay safe and happy a blessed and wonderful summer!
Mrs. Kumpel

Terranova scores went home in the Friday Folder. The folder also includes all the graded tests. I gave a practice addition/subtraction quiz on Thursday and was very disappointed in the scores. I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day. I can't believe this school year is almost over! It's been fun!
Our class finally finished our Great Mail Race letters.
Each child wrote a personal letter and sent it, along with our school survey, to another Catholic school in the U.S. I had forgotten to ask each child to bring in a stamp so they are bringing their letter home to stamp and mail it. We're hoping to receive letters back for the next school year while they're in 4th grade.

I would ask you to please sign your child out so that I know he/she left safely with an adult. It sounds like a fun day. I'm looking forward to it and I know the children are, too!

We're Back!!
It was a wonderful field trip. The children really enjoyed it. We learned a lot about horseshoe crabs and we even got to pick them up. We got to do some beachcombing and some may be bringing home their beach finds to share with you. We left after lunch under the pavilion because it was a little chilly and some weren't dressed for the weather. We arrived back at school about 2:40pm, a little earlier than 4th and 5th because our program was different and shorter than theirs. Fun Fact: A horseshoe crab is actually related to the spider and scorpion!

The chicks have arrived!!! These came already hatched.
Mr. Davis came in and took the unhatched eggs and replaced them with chicks that came UPS :) No amount of prayers were going to help the other eggs hatch. It wasn't in God's plans. But we are so thrilled with these. There are 12 new ones that Tweety has to get used to now. And they all look alike. The class suggests we name them with the same name. That solves that problem!
I apologize for the lack of schoolnotes yesterday. I have duty after school and I completely forgot. I am actually off today from school but just had to drive down to see these chicks. They are very quiet. I can't wait for Monday to be greeted by thirteen peeping chicks.

Hello Third Grade!!
I can't wait to meet all of you. I hope you are enjoying what's left of the summer. And if you noticed the reading list for third grade was actually for the fourth grade, not to worry. I just hope you read something from either list and will be prepared to share with the class. Choose one of following ways in which to share your favorite book:
Make a diorama
Design a bookmark
Draw your favorite scene from the book
Write a book report
See you soon,
Mrs. Lena Kumpel
If you have already chosen an activity from the fourth grade list, that will be fine, too.
