Hello 5th Graders and Families,

 Please look at the calendar found at the side of this page to keep up with our schedule.  We are very busy in fifth grade, so it is important for the students to stay focused and keep track of all of their assignments.

Reading:

We have recently finished reading Drita, My Homegirl and will soon begin reading Crash by Jerry Spinelli. It is a fantastic book that I am certain all of the children will enjoy. In addition to our read aloud, the children are doing independent reading that we track on our reading logs. Please ask your child how they are doing with meeting the Wolf Pack goals.

We are beginning a whole class book, Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary. I believe the children will be able to make some connections with Leigh, the main character in the story.

Writing:

The first round of writing pieces were interesting. The next writing piece, based on words from each student's vocabulary journal, is due on November 10th. The students have been asked to vary the genre they choose to write in (i.e. poetry, fiction, non-fiction, etc.).
