                     ROOM 2-207

         WEEK OF AUG. 30-SEPT. 3

LANGUAGE ARTS-  This week in Reading we will be starting our first story in our new reader called Ann's First Day.  We will learn about the table of contents, authors, and illustrators. We will also review our short vowels, work on comprehension, and inference.  We will learn the rules of making words plural by adding s, es, and ies.  Our spelling words for this week are--still,best, bat, mom, just, desk, clock, hut, fit, plant, carrots, crawls, homework, hurry, and lucky.  We will work on them all week and the students need to study them at home during the week; on Friday, the students will be tested on them.  We will also be taking a reading placement test for our leveled readers.  In English, we will review that sentences are a complete idea that begins with a capital letter and ends with punctuation marks.

MATH- We are working on addition and learning to count up.  We will also work on doubles and memorizing our addition facts to 20.  It would be very helpful if you bought or made some addition flashcards and practiced them at home.  Every week, the students will be given a five minute speed quiz, and I would like to see improvement by at least a few extra answers.

SOCIAL STUDIES-  In Social Studies, we begin to learn about different kinds of communities such as farm, city, and suburb.

SCIENCE- Our first Science chapter deals with plants.  In the first week, we will learn to classify living and non-living things and compare and contrast how plants can be alike and also discuss their differences.

RELIGION- We will discuss our family and the Holy Family as well as the creation of the world.
