NICEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT Hello. Welcome to SchoolNotes. SchoolNotes! Your most up-to-date source for Niceville Chorus information. Your chorus news source. SPRING CONCERT VIDEO AVAILABLE There are yet more interesting forms concerning the tour to Spain to download on this page. The "Terms and Conditions" document was published previously. It can be found in"Downloads" at the top of this page. Also, a new "Intent to Travel"document has been published. This is a NHS Chorus document that needs to be turned in immediately if it is not now in the Spain folder in the chorus room. Sign the lastpage and returned it ASAP. Also new to thethe site is the latest, updated, "Itinerary". It too can be downloadedand printed. Another download includes the names of those traveling toSpain ("Travel List 2011"). A very important form is the "Registration" form. It ask for a copy of your passport. This for will be the first collected by the NHS Chorus and the forwarded to Intropa. With this particular form is an "Insurance Application/Disclaimer" which must be completed in full to be accepted. Two additional forms that need your attention is the "Deviation" form that tells Intropa that you are not going to remain with the tour or that you are staying in Spain for an extended period and the "Land Only" form that allows you to buy your own airline ticket (you should do this quickly so you will have seats on the same flight as the rest of the group) and purchase the land portion of the trip separately from Intropa. Please take time to read each form and to complete and send the "Registration" (with a copy of your passport) and the "Intent to Travel" forms to the school as soon as you can. Go to "Downloads" above, open the .pdf file and print it. It might be a good idea to print and post on you home refrigerator. SPAIN TRIP LIST AND INFORMATION SPAIN 2011 INTERNATIONAL DESTINATION Weare back on track for the 2011 tour to Spain. There was indeed anincrease of price for the tour. This increase was a result of a priceincrease passed to our tour company from the company that arranges theground tour in Spain. While a $200.00 price increase seemed probable,a $50.00 increase is actual. However, $100.00 airline deposits must bemade so we will know who is going and can sign a contract with our tourcompany. A DEPOSIT IS DUE NOW. The new price of the Spain trip is $3,050.00, still a bargain and best tour price the chorus has ever hadfor international travel. A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR For the past week we have talking about when to travel for the spring chorus trip. The original dates, April 27-May 1, were compromised because of the band's state mpa schedule. The chorus and band share quite a few students. Looking forward into May, travel is impossible due to AP and AICE testing and an very early graduation date. Looking backward from the planned date, there is Easter, the week before, and FCAT takes place the week before that. Just 10 days before FCAT week, the Singers will be returning from Spain. Many parents got an e-mail from CBA President Susan Bubel regarding travel from April 20-24, 2011. The trip would encompass Good Friday and Easter, two days that many of our chorus families observe. Unfortunately, this week seems to be the only possible one for travel and will be the week that I present to the NHS Calendar Committee next Monday. Each family must do what they feel is right for them. In a previous trip to Gatlinburg (2003), parents organized a Good Friday service with the local Catholic parish and a community sunrise service on Easter morning with a ministerial alliance group. The chorus boosters will work with parents who wish to do the same in 2011. Michael Dye, Choral Director GATLINBURG: TRIP DESTINATION FOR 2011 The Tennessee mountain village of Gatlinburg will host the next Niceville Chorus trip in 2011. The tour will cost $480 and take place April 20 - 24. The mandatory pre-trip meeting will be at 6:00 PM, Monday, April 18 in the high school auditorium. FCAT testing will take place in mid-April and the annual AP exams will remain on the calendar for the first two weeks of May. Graduation is scheduled for May 19, about the time 2011 AP and AICE testing is complete. SCHOOLNOTES MERITS The day after SchoolNotes are published, the next day only, you bring a copy of the first page of 'Notes to your chorus class, with a parent signature and legitimate e-mail address, and receive 3 merits that will earn you privileges on the trip to Gatlinburg next spring. Susan Bubel is our NHS Chorus Booster Association's (CBA) president. Her son, Brandon, is a junior member of Opus One, Camerata and the Niceville Singers. He also plays baseball for the Eagles. Our chorus treasurer has been with our choral music department for several years. Julie Burrell, whose daughter Nicole graduated a few years ago, continues to serve the association and our students. By September, as soon as she gets class rolls, she will have an account set up for every singer in the chorus. Her immaculate records will follow students all four years of their chorus careers. If you want, you can print these documents from here. Who are we? What is in a name? Our program is made up of six main choirs that meet daily. The boys chorus that is made up of about 55 young men and meets 2nd period is called The Camerata. You will hear the Bel Canto (Beautiful Song) singing during 3rd period. The Bel Canto is composed of sophomore girls. During the fourth hour, the Kantorai come to sing. Kantorai is made up of our freshmen girls. Opus One, Niceville's most select ensemble, has 18 junior and senior members. Opus meets 5th period daily. Our junior and senior women sing during 6th period. We call them our Select Women. They have been one of the finest womens choruses in Florida since they were founded several years ago. The Niceville Singers meet during a bonus period - 8th period. Singers is an auditioned choir of about 50 boys and girls. They are mostly juniors and seniors. All must be dedicated, hard working student-musicians. |
