2/24/10 Nothing due tomorrow, but there is a written homework assignment in social studiesdue friday. The rubric with all of the expectations have been given out, and I have posted it on my downloads if you are curious, or have lost it. We would like the paper to be hand-written, not typed. Social Studies test friday on topic 17. 2/23/10 Today I am sending home the latest time/temperature quiz. I am attaching today's smartboard notes as a PDF file. Look in My Downloads. Homework tonight is Topic 18 TAKS Test Prep, All problems. Test tomorrow on Topic 18. Social Studies Test Friday on Unit 17 about immigration. Next topic in Math is Topic 13, coordinates on a grid.

Update to last entry:
I have been informed that I need to have all data in by Monday from the 2009 TAKS release test. Therefore, I will be giving the test on Thursday. Homework is a worksheet (18-3) on changes in temperature. 2/12/10 For next week, The math teachers in our area have been directed to give the released 2009 Math TAKS. I will give the test Friday, and continue into Monday the ones who didn't finish. The plan is to see where students need help, and target the instruction. Have a Nice Valentine's day, Happy Chinese New year, and Happy Mardi Gras!
2/9/10 Homework tonight: 18-1 # 11-18. Show your 2-column charts. I have attached a chart on my downloads. We are sending home Progress reports today. I am sending home, 2 social studies tests (Unit 15 and MLK movie quiz), and 1 math test (measurement conversions) Quiz Thursday on Elapsed time, and Social Studies Test Friday. 2-1-10 Homework tonight is lesson 17-7 # 6-11. Make sure to draw pictires, diagrams, or charts. Test on Topic 17 Wednesday.
1/26/09 Today I am sending home the metric conversion quiz grades, and, if applicable, the re-take of the same quiz. Also, after some technical difficulty, the metric ladder is available on my attachments link. I have been keeping it light during Stanford Testing. Thursday, we wil be back to regular schedule.

Homework tonight is a customary unit sheet, to be done in journal with work shown. Remember that I have the math chart in my file attachments. I am sending home our latest quiz in math. If it's lower than 35/50 (70%) I am offering a re-take tomorrow. I am also sending home the common assessment that you already should have seen. If the Common Assessment was failed I'll be offering a re-take as well for that on FRIDAY.
For re-takes, The maximim grade possible is 70%. The highest grade will count. Quiz wed on more conversions with customary, SS test Friday on unit 13.

Homework tonight: Topic 17, independent practice, # 9-23. Show work, as usual. Common Assessment Thursday. Quiz on converting units of measurement on Friday. No social Studies this week to to over-abundant "common assessmenticity"
12-18-09 Thank you all for all of your generous gifts this week! My having the chance to teach your kids is the real gift I get from all of you. I have attached my assignment for the break in case it gets "difficult to locate" Please TAKE YOUR TIME TO UNDERSTAND each problem, and if we've missed anything due to missing a multiplication fact, please stop by our useful academic links and try one of our various and sundry practice programs. Our common assessment is on Thursday, the 7th. Have a happy and safe Holiday.
12-7-09 Homework tonight: the topic 10 "TAKS Test Prep" all problems. Show work, don 't just write down the letter answers. The topic test for fraction operations is Wednesday, with a practice test going home tomorrow night. 12-3-09 Homework tonight is 10-5 #10-15 draw the number lines, and write the equations. Quiz tomorrow, Test Tuesday. Open book social Studies test tomorrow.
Also, Math Masters Families, I got early this week, a flyer for Harmony Science Academy's 5th grade math contest. In past years, they have done it the last week in January. So unfortunately it's too short of notice for me to organize a team outing, but I sent home flyers in case anyone could get to it independently.
11/24/09 Happy Thanksgiving! progress reports went home today. Bear in mind that I was out of town for 3 graded assignments, with no internet access. If you check into gradespeed sometime this weekend, all the grades I have will be entered. The common assessment was rough for some, and the extra 2 grades I enter will probably improve most averages. In short, don't panic until you see all the grades to date.
Have a good holiday. 11/19/09 Tonight's homework is a practice test. I have asked that students show their work, as always. Use the back of the sheets if needed. Quiz today on simplest form (I think we've got it now). Actual test is on monday. I am attaching the PDF file of the practice test for all you out-of towners. It's under "downloads". I will be away thru Monday. I'll be back on Tuesday to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.
11-16-09 Homework tonight: lesson 8-7 # 15-25, but skip # 19. Quiz tomorrow on common factors, and greatest common factor. There will be a quiz thursday on simplifying fractions, and a test Monday, on topic 8, Equivalent Fractions.
11-10-09 No Math homework tonight. Common Assessments are going home. If they haven't been signed, Please do so tonight. Sweet Potato day is tomorrow. Math Masters club applications went out today. There are 20-25 slots to fill, and sadly, not everyone who applies, can be on the team. Saying no to Math Masters applicants is one of my least favorite parts of my job. I will go by cycle 1 math grades and see where we stand. 11/9/09 Homework tonight: lesson 8-6 # 9 - 20 Quiz tomorrow e sure you know your rules of divisibility from on finding factors of a number. Makpage 179. It will help. Also, on friday I asked the students to have their parents to look over the common assessment for tomorrow, have the reflections done, and do any corrections in their journals. Social Studies open book test friday on the first Thanksgiving
11/5/09 Homework tonight: 8-5 # 13-24 Use the cup method. I have attached an example if you were absent on my downloads.
10/22/09 Homework tonight is a reteach section I think we need to hit before we need to move on. It's Page 216 in the book, SECTION B. 1 thru 6. Also, I need for each problem a written justification why you think your answer is right. For example: 3/4 is greater than 3/5 because you have 3 in each numerator, but 4ths are bigger pieces.
Social Studies test tomorrow.

10/16/09 It seems all of my previous notes have been vaporized. No homework over the weekend, but I have handed out the new social studies paper. Common Assessment for Math will be on Friday the 30th the day after camp. Early dismissal that day. |
