Spanish I -- 8th grade (2nd period) Note: Since this class is for a high school credit, classroom expectations are higher and students are expected to study daily. Week #16 (May 2-6): A quiz on ser/estar is scheduled for Thursday, May 5. Week #15 (April 26-29): There is a vocabulary quiz Wednesday, April 27, and we will study differences between ser/estar indirect object pronouns. Week #14 (April 18-21): The next unit is on body parts, illnesses, behavior and personality characteristics. Grammatical concepts include the verbs ser and estar and more with indirect object pronouns. There will be a vocabulary quiz Tuesday, April 19. Weel #13 (April 11-15): The Unit Test will be Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12 and 13. Week #12 (April 4-8): There will be a quiz on stem-changing verbs Wednesday, April 6. Week #11 (March 28-April 1): We will continue the unit on sports. Several students will be at Beta convention Monday-Tuesday; these students have their assignments. The main focus this week will be on conjugation of stem-changing verbs and gustar, aburrir, interesar. No quizzes are scheduled. Week #10 (March 21-25): It's hard to believe that the last term of this school is about to begin. We will begin a unit on sports and will compare sports in the U.S. with sports in Hispanic countries. Grammatical concepts include stem-changing verbs and verbs such as gustar, aburrir, interesar. A vocabulary quiz is scheduled for Friday, March 25. Week #9 (March 7-11): There will be a unit test Wednesday, March 9. Week #8 (February 28-March 4): I changed due date on menu to Monday, Feb. 28. Field trip to Papito's is Friday, March 4. If any parent would like to join us, please feel free to do so; we should be at the restaurant by 11:00 and leave by 12:45. This week we will finish the grammar part of the unit (which is using an infinitive with another verb). Students have been divided into groups of 4 each to create and present an original skit in a restaurant. Students have the requirements and the grading rubric. The skits will be presented in class Friday, March 4. Week #7 (February 22-25): The menu project is due Friday, Feb. 25, no exceptions. Our field trip to Papito's is scheduled for Friday, March 4. Please sign permission form and return ASAP. No student can attend field trip without signed permission form. This week we will concentrate on present tense of regular -er/-ir verbs. There will be a verb quiz Friday, Feb. 25. Week #6 (February 14-18): This week we will continue our study of foods/meals and add vocabulary for eating out and how to order. The outside project for this unit is an original menu for an origianl hispanic restaurant. It will be due Friday, February 25 and will count as a test grade. Week #5 (February 7-11): The next unit of study will be foods and vocabulary related to dining in restaurants and setting the table. Grammatical concepts include conjugation of regular -er and -ir verbs and expressions with infinitives such as tener que, ir a, and acabar de. There will be a vocabulary quiz Friday, February 11. Week #4 (January 31-February 4): We will finish our current unit and have a unit test Friday, February 4. Weel #3 (January 24-28): Continuing with study from last week, students will have a vocabulary quiz Wednesday, Jan. 26. Students will learn 3 new irregular verbs: dar, estar, ir. the personal a, and the contractions al/del. Week #2 (January 18-21-: We will begin a unit on activities, both during school and afterwards. Students will identify school clothes/supplies, talk about what they do in school and what they do after school. There will be a vocabulary quiz Friday, Jan. 21. Week #1 (January 10-14): Bienvenidos al segundo semestre. This week we will study conjugation of regular -ar verbs and have a quiz Friday, Jan. 14. Please check out the websites included here. They are excellent!!!! 7th Grade Enrichment Spanish Week #7 (May 2-6): The test on commands/objects is Tuesday, May 3, and the next unit of study is colors/shapes. Week #6 (April 26-29): This week students will learn vocabulary for common classroom objects and commands. Week #5 (April 18-21): On Monday and Tuesday, students will create and present an original dialogue with the greetings, intros, and poite expressions and have a quiz. We will also work with days of the week vocabulary and the concept of "I like" in Spanish. Week #4 (April 11-15): This week we will study greetings, introductions, and polite expressions. Students will work together to create and present an original dialogue with the vocabulary in class. Week #3 (April 4-8): In an effort to help with pronunciation, we will begin a unit on the Spanish alphabet. Students will learn to say the Spanish alphabet and how to spell names other Spanish words with the Spanish alphabet. There will be a daily grade activity on Wednesday, April 6 and the test will be Friday, April 8. Week #2 (March 28-April 1): Students will learn vocabulary for days of the week and also academic vocabulary particular for this class. There will be a quiz on Spanish nombres Wednesday, March 30. We will also discuss the importance of learning Spanish as a second language and begin a unit of the Spanish alphabet. Term 4 -- Week #1 (March 21-25): Welcome to the last 9-weeks' term of this school year. Please check with your student for important forms such as behavior contract for you to sign and return ASAP and a syllabus of the class. This week we will explore Spanish names and compare/contrast with American names. Students will select a Spanish for use in the classroom I look forward to getting to know your child and working with him/her in the classroom.
Week #9 (March 7-11): The test on colors/shapes will be Thursday, March 10. Since this is the last week, there will be celebratory fiesta Friday, March 11. Each student is asked to bring some type of Mexican food for the party. It doesn't have to be a lot; a bag of Mexican chips or salsa would be fine. I've enjoyed teaching your children this term. Week #8 (February 28-March 4): This week students will learn Spanish vocabulary for colors and shapes. Week #7 (February 22-25): This week students will learn vocabulary for common classroom objects and commands. There will be a quiz Friday, Feb. 25. Week #6 (February 14-18): Since Monday is Valentine's Day, students will create original Valentines and use Spanish phrases on them. Students will be paired with another student to create and present an original dialogue using greetings, intros, and polite expressions this week as well. Week #5 (February 7-11): The next unit of study is on greetings, introductions, and polite expressions. Students will compose an original dialogue/conversation to present to the class. Week #4 (January 31-February 4): There will be a test on the Spanish alphabet Wednesday, February 2. The next unit of study is on greetings, introductions, and polite expressions.
