Here is this week's update!

02/08-02/12

Reading- We will be reading the story titled, "Heat Wave."  This is a fantasy story about a Heat Wave that sweeps across a farm in Kansas.  We will be working on analyzing details from the story to determine if they are fantasy or realism.  Students will be working with graphic organizers to classify this information.  We will continue working with challenging vocabulary while reading with fluency and expression in our voices.

Social Studies- We will continue studying North Carolina in early statehood.  During this early post-American Revolution period, we will briefly discuss the Trail of Tears and the Underground Railroad.

Writing- We will be finishing our research on a significant African American in honor of Black History month.  Students researched this significant individual in the computer lab and we've formulated biographies from the research.  We will finish editing and make final revisions this week.  Near the end of the week, we will begin gathering our research for the next upcoming writing prompt that is content specific.  Students will describe an animal and discuss how it's adaptations have allowed it to survive within it's habitat.  Keynotes that were created in science class will be used to help in our responses to this latest writing prompt.

Parents:  Thank you for taking an active role in your child's education.  By working together we can strive to help your child learn and thrive at an optimal level.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you for all that you do.
